Tracking Down the Basketball Schedule
Right so I heard folks talking about the WV high school basketball tournament next year while grabbing coffee at the gas station. Figured I’d find those dates since my nephew’s team might make it this time. Pulled out my phone right there in the parking lot.
Started simple – typed “WV Boys State Basketball 2025” straight into Google. Got flooded with stuff from 2024 tournaments, ticket reseller junk, and some AI-generated articles that didn’t tell me squat. Felt like hitting a brick wall immediately.
Remembered last year the official WVSSAC site had legit info. Hopped over there and man, their website’s still stuck in the dial-up era. Clicked “Winter Sports” then “Basketball” but only found regional brackets from two months back. No state tourney stuff anywhere. Crickets.
Decided to try brute force social media. Went to Twitter first – searched #WVbasketball and @WVSSAC handle. Scrolled through months of tweets about golf championships and soccer scores. Found one dude complaining they hadn’t posted the basketball dates yet. At least confirmed I wasn’t crazy.
Pivoted to Facebook groups – joined “WV High School Sports Fans”. Posted asking if anyone had the schedule. Got 20 notifications overnight but just people guessing dates or arguing about venues. One guy insisted it’d be in August at the beach. Dead end.
Finally had a lightbulb moment – called the athletic director at my old high school. He picked up on the third ring and actually knew something! Said the WVSSAC always releases the calendar late. Told me to check the Charleston Gazette-Mail sports section next month when they leak it early. Not perfect but gave me a path.
Wound up setting a Google Alert for “2025 WV state basketball schedule”. Still waiting on that notification but honestly? Should’ve just called the school guy first instead of crawling sketchy websites for an hour. Technology isn’t always the answer folks.
