My Search Disaster Phase
Started simple – went straight to the high school’s official page. Spent like 20 minutes clicking around their athletics tab. Found rosters, old game photos, even a PDF about booster club fundraisers from 2019. Zero help on live streams.
Switched to social media:
Instagram? Coach sometimes posted practice clips but no links.
Twitter? Someone had tweeted “Go Gators!” last week with no details.
Facebook? Team parents group had 500 comments about snack duty drama. One person asked about streams and got ignored.
Lightbulb Moment
Remembered the school district website might have something. Searched “[Gautier School District] athletics calendar” (obviously used the real district name). Jackpot! They actually listed all sports schedules including JV and varsity football. Times, opponents, everything.
But still no links to watch. Almost threw my coffee mug.
The Local News Save
Got desperate and typed “[Our County Name] high school football streams” online. Found the sports section of our regional news site. They cover all local games! Turns out they do live broadcasts for most big matchups. Required three more clicks to find:
- Specific game days/times for Gautier
- Which platform they stream through (that free one with the purple logo)
- How to navigate their awful menu to find our school
Saved the schedule as a screenshot and texted it to my brother. Whole circus took under an hour once I stopped overcomplicating it.
Moral of the story? School sites might hide schedules like treasure, but local news outlets usually do the heavy lifting. Just bring extra patience – and maybe don’t ask parents about streams until AFTER they’ve dealt with concession stand duty drama.
