Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into fantasy football prep for the 2024 season, and I wanted to share my process for figuring out my top players, especially for PPR (points per reception) leagues. It’s a bit of a messy process, but hey, that’s how we get to the good stuff, right?

Started with the Basics
First, I just needed to get a feel for who might be good. I didn’t want to just blindly trust some random list online.
- So, I grabbed some rankings, just to start.
- I started making my own list, a big messy spreadsheet.
Digging into Player Stats
Then came the real work. It was time to look at last year’s numbers, and i mean really look.
- Targets, Targets, Targets: For PPR, you gotta see who the quarterback is throwing to. More targets usually mean more receptions.
- Red Zone Looks: Who’s getting the ball near the end zone? Touchdowns are king, even in PPR.
- Yards Per Reception, After Catch is Better: Efficiency matters, How many yards do they get, especially after catch?
Thinking About Changes
Past performance isn’t everything, though. Things change fast in the NFL.
- New Teams, New Coaches: Did a star receiver switch teams? Did a team hire a new offensive coordinator who loves to throw the ball?
- Injuries: Sadly, this is a big one. Is a player coming back from a major injury? Are they fully healthy?
- Rookies: Gotta keep an eye on the new guys. Which rookies are landing in situations where they might get a lot of playing time right away?
My “Gut Feeling” List
After all that research, I started to get a “feel” for certain players. Some guys just jumped out at me. It’s not purely about the numbers. Sometimes, you just gotta trust your gut.
So, yeah, that’s basically my messy, but hopefully effective, process. It’s all about combining the hard data with a little bit of intuition. Good luck with your own drafts, and let’s dominate this season!
