Today, I tried to make a thing called “tennis candy.” It sounds a bit weird, I know, but I saw it online and got curious. So, I decided to give it a shot and see what would happen.

First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. This was pretty simple – just some sugar, water, and a bit of food coloring. Oh, and I grabbed a tennis ball from the garage. I gave it a good wash because, you know, hygiene.
Next, I started by mixing the sugar and water in a pot. I heated it up on the stove, stirring it until all the sugar dissolved. It got all syrupy, which is what I wanted. I added a few drops of green food coloring to make it look like a tennis ball, I guess. It smelled pretty sweet at this point.
Then came the tricky part. I took the clean tennis ball and carefully dipped it into the hot sugar mixture. I made sure it was completely covered. It was a bit messy, and I might have burned my fingers a little, but I’m tough. I repeated this a couple of times, letting the sugar cool a bit in between so it would stick better and build up a layer.
After several dips, I set the tennis ball aside to cool completely. This took a while, like watching paint dry. I kept checking on it, poking it every now and then. Finally, it felt hard enough. Time for the grand reveal!
I carefully started to peel the hardened sugar off the tennis ball. Some bits were easier to remove than others. It was like unwrapping a weird, sticky present. It was hard work to be honest, and quite time-consuming.
In the end, I managed to get most of the sugar shell off. What remained was this hollow, green, kinda-sorta tennis ball-shaped candy. It looked… interesting. Definitely not something you’d see in a candy store.
I took a bite. It was crunchy, super sweet, and honestly, not that bad. It just tasted like, well, hardened sugar, with a hint of green color, I guess. Would I make it again? Probably not. It was a fun experiment, but a lot of work for a sugar shell that looked a bit like a tennis ball and tasted of nothing.
- Mixing sugar and water.
- Heating and adding food coloring.
- Dipping the tennis ball.
- Cooling and peeling.
- Tasting the final product.
The whole thing was a bit of a hassle, to be honest.
But hey, at least I can say I made tennis candy! It’s a good story to tell, I suppose. And it did make me appreciate the regular candy I can just buy at the store. This whole thing? Probably not worth the effort, but it was a fun, sticky adventure nonetheless!
