Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of fantasy football scoring. I’ve always been a huge football fan, but I’ve never really understood how the scoring in fantasy leagues works. So, I figured, why not figure it out and document the whole process?

Getting Started
First, I spent some time looking around online for basic information. I needed to know what stats actually matter in fantasy football. You know, like, do tackles count? What about field goals?
I found out that there are a bunch of different scoring systems, but the most common ones seem to focus on:
- Passing: Yards, touchdowns, and sometimes interceptions.
- Rushing: Yards, touchdowns, and sometimes fumbles.
- Receiving: Yards, touchdowns, receptions, and also sometimes fumbles.
- Kicking: Field goals (sometimes with different points for different distances) and extra points.
- Defense/Special Teams: Sacks, interceptions, fumbles recovered, touchdowns, safeties, and points allowed.
Doing Some Calculation
Then I took some paper try to understand the scoring system, and write down the common scoring systems.
- Passing Yards: 1 point per 25 yards
- Passing Touchdowns: 4 points
- Interceptions: -1 or -2 points (depending on the league)
- Rushing Yards: 1 point per 10 yards
- Rushing Touchdowns: 6 points
- Receptions: 0.5 points or 1 point (depending on “PPR” – points per reception)
- Receiving Yards: 1 point per 10 yards
- Receiving Touchdowns: 6 points
- Field Goals: 3 points (usually, with bonuses for longer kicks)
- Extra Points: 1 point
I grab the number of one of player, and then I did some easy math to see how many points he would have scored.
Putting it All Together
After that, I spent some time messing around, calculating scores for a few different players.I thought it can help me get the hang of it.
And I think now, I can handle fantasy football.
