Okay, so today I’m gonna talk about how I dove into NFL fantasy mock drafts. It all started when my buddies were like, “Hey, let’s do a fantasy football league this year!” I had no idea what I was doing, but I was like, “Sure, why not?”

First thing I did was jump on the computer and start Googling “NFL fantasy football.” Man, there’s a ton of stuff out there! I found a bunch of websites that let you do these practice drafts called “mock drafts.” Basically, you’re pretending to draft a team before the real draft. Sounds easy enough, right?
I signed up for a couple of these free mock draft things. It’s like a video game, but for football nerds. You get put in a virtual room with a bunch of other people, and you take turns picking players for your team.
My First Mock Draft
My first mock draft was a mess. I just picked names I recognized, like Tom Brady and some other big shots. I didn’t really know any of the new guys. Turns out, that’s a terrible strategy. My team was ancient!
After that disaster, I started doing some reading. I learned about things like “ADP” – that’s average draft position – which tells you when players are usually getting picked. I also looked at player rankings on different websites to see who the “experts” thought were good.
Getting Better (Slightly)
I did a bunch more mock drafts, trying out different strategies. Sometimes I’d try to grab running backs early, other times I’d wait on a quarterback. I kept track of all my drafts in a notebook, like a real nerd.
- Draft 1: Disaster – all old guys.
- Draft 2: Tried to go young, ended up with no good receivers.
- Draft 3: Focused on ADP, team looked okay on paper.
- Draft 4: Got some good value picks, feeling confident.
Slowly but surely, I started to get the hang of it. I figured out which positions were deep and which ones I needed to grab early. I even started to recognize some of the up-and-coming players that weren’t household names yet.
By the time our real draft rolled around, I felt pretty prepared. I didn’t end up with a perfect team, but it was way better than what I would’ve drafted if I hadn’t done all those mock drafts. Plus, it was actually kind of fun, even though I spent way too many hours staring at my computer screen.
So yeah, that’s my story about how I became a fantasy football mock draft addict. If you’re thinking about doing a fantasy league, I definitely recommend doing some practice drafts. It’s a great way to learn the ropes without messing up your actual team. You can find out the rules easily on the website. Just don’t blame me if you end up spending hours on it like I did!
