nfl fantasy football mock draft: Common Mistakes to Avoid and Win Big

Okay, so, I decided to jump into this NFL fantasy football mock draft thing today. I’ve heard a lot about it, and, honestly, I’ve always wanted to give it a try. So, I found a site that lets you do mock drafts and set it up.

nfl fantasy football mock draft: Common Mistakes to Avoid and Win Big

First off, I picked my draft position. I went with the 5th pick in a 12-team league, just felt like a good spot to be in, you know? Not too early, not too late. Then, I set the league to standard scoring. I’m still kind of a newb at this, so I didn’t want to mess with any of the fancy scoring systems yet.

The draft started, and man, it goes fast. The first four picks went pretty much as I expected – mostly running backs. When it was my turn, I was staring at the screen, and I ended up grabbing Christian McCaffrey. I mean, the guy’s a beast, right? Felt like a solid first-round pick.

  • Round 1, Pick 5: Christian McCaffrey, RB

In the second round, I snagged a wide receiver, Stefon Diggs. I figured it’s good to have a balance, and a top-tier receiver seemed like the right move.

  • Round 2, Pick 20: Stefon Diggs, WR

As the draft went on, I just tried to keep my team balanced. I took a quarterback in the fourth round, Jalen Hurts, because, well, you need a good QB to win, right?

  • Round 3, Pick 29: Amari Cooper, WR
  • Round 4, Pick 44: Jalen Hurts, QB

I continued filling out my roster, picking up a tight end, some more running backs and receivers, and even a defense and a kicker towards the end.

  • Round 5, Pick 53: Travis Etienne Jr., RB
  • Round 6, Pick 68: Darren Waller, TE
  • Round 7, Pick 77: Javonte Williams, RB
  • Round 8, Pick 92: Michael Thomas, WR
  • Round 9, Pick 101: Brandin Cooks, WR
  • Round 10, Pick 116: Damien Harris, RB
  • Round 11, Pick 125: Courtland Sutton, WR
  • Round 12, Pick 140: Buffalo Bills, D/ST
  • Round 13, Pick 149: Evan McPherson, K
  • Round 14, Pick 164: Jameson Williams, WR
  • Round 15, Pick 173: Rachaad White, RB

The Final Result

By the time it was all over, I actually felt pretty good about my team. I mean, I don’t know if I’ll win any leagues or anything, but it was a fun experience. It’s crazy how much strategy goes into this stuff. I definitely learned a lot just from this one mock draft. I think I’ll do a few more before the actual season starts. It’s a good way to get familiar with the players and kind of figure out your strategy for the real draft.

Overall, I think it was time well spent. And who knows, maybe this is the start of a new hobby? At least I understand the draft process better now. A good day, I’d say.
