Okay, so today I decided to jump into a mock fantasy NFL draft, something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I’ve always been a huge NFL fan, but I’ve never really gotten my hands dirty with the fantasy side of things. Figured a mock draft was a low-stakes way to get a feel for it.

First thing I did was find a platform. there are plenty of websites offers free mock drafts. I picked one that looked pretty straightforward, no need for anything fancy.
Getting Started
- Joined a Room:I hopped into a random draft room with a bunch of other people, most of them probably way more experienced than me.
- Draft Settings: We had a standard 12-team league, PPR scoring (points per reception). This part was a little confusing at first, but I quickly got used to. Snake draft, which means the draft order reverses each round.
The Draft Itself
Man, this was way faster-paced than I expected! People were picking players left and right. My heart was kinda pounding, not gonna lie. I felt completely underprepared. I had to made a list in my head of some of my favorite players.
My strategy(or total lack of the plan)? Grab a top running back first. I ended up with Christian McCaffrey I was pretty happy with him. I had this list of players I kinda liked, but I mostly just went with my gut feeling during the draft. Didn’t know half the players picked by all the online dudes.
- Round 1: Christian McCaffrey (RB) – Woohoo!
- Round 2: Grabbed a pretty good wide receiver.
- Round 3-15: Total chaos. Just tried to fill out my roster with the best available players at each position. I did pick the best QB I think.
My Team
To be honest, I have no idea if my team is actually any good. I recognized, like, half the names. But hey, I had fun! That’s the main thing, right?
Lessons Learned
- Do Your Research: Next time, I’m definitely going to do more prep work. Maybe look at some rankings, read some articles. I felt like a total newbie.
- Don’t Panic: It’s easy to get caught up in the moment and make rushed picks. Take a deep breath and think it through.
- Trust Your Gut (Sometimes): While research is important, sometimes you just gotta go with your instincts.
Overall, it was a blast! I can totally see why people get so into fantasy football. It adds a whole new level of excitement to watching the games. I’ll for sure be doing another mock draft soon, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll even join a real league this year. Next time I will get a draft list!
