Okay, so, today I wanted to dive into something I’ve been messing around with: figuring out who’s gonna be pitching in upcoming baseball games. You know, the “probable pitchers” for Major League Baseball. It’s kinda fun to keep track of, and it’s useful if you’re into fantasy baseball or just a big fan like me.

First off, I had to find where to get this info. There are a bunch of websites and apps that track this stuff. Some are better than others, of course. I tried a few, and some of them were a mess, hard to read, or just not updated enough. So I bookmarked the ones I like and I will share with you later.
So, after I found a good source, I started just checking it every day. Like, first thing in the morning, you know? See who’s scheduled to pitch. It’s like a little daily ritual now. I’m seeing some familiar names, like Clayton Kershaw and Jacob deGrom. Those guys are beasts! And then you got some up-and-comers, always exciting to see who’s gonna break out.
Then I will check whether my favorate player will be playing. For example, I will check whether Mookie Betts will play.
I also noticed some sites use this little “PP” badge next to a player’s name. That means they’re the probable pitcher for a game in the next week. But it also says that these are “subject to change” and “not guaranteed.” So, you can’t just take it as gospel. Managers change their minds, guys get hurt, all sorts of things can happen.
But I didn’t stop there. I started making a list. Yeah, I’m a bit of a nerd like that. I have this spreadsheet where I jot down each day’s matchups and who’s supposed to be pitching. Then I started adding notes, like if a pitcher is on a hot streak, or if they’re coming back from an injury. It’s actually pretty interesting to see the patterns.
For instance, I saw that in the upcoming World Series Game 4, the Yankees are throwing Luis Gil, and the Dodgers are going with Ben Casparius. Now, I don’t know much about Casparius, but I’ve seen Gil pitch a few times, and he’s got some serious heat. That’s gonna be a good game!
What I learned: I found out there are some all time greats like Barry Bonds. What a pity that I have no chance to see him on a live match!
- Lots of Changes: These probable pitcher lists change a LOT. It’s not just set it and forget it.
- Not Just the Big Names: It’s cool to see who the up-and-coming pitchers are. You might catch the next big star.
- It’s a Puzzle: There’s a lot of strategy that goes into who pitches when. Managers are always thinking a few steps ahead.
Things I’ve noticed:
Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to. It’s a fun little project, and it makes watching the games even more interesting when you know who’s on the mound and a bit about their story. If you’re a baseball fan, I definitely recommend giving it a try!
