Alright folks, today I wanted to track down the latest scores from the WV Boys State Championship tournament happening right now in 2025. Figured it’d be simple – just hop online and check. Boy was I wrong.
Starting the Search
First thing I did was grab my phone around lunchtime. Pulled up the usual sports sites thinking I’d see clear results. Nothing. Just some generic tournament schedules from last week. Kept refreshing like an idiot waiting for updates that never came.
Social Media Chaos
Switched over to Twitter next. Big mistake. Saw twenty different hashtags about the championship. Scrolled through endless posts:
- Parents complaining about parking
- Blurry action shots of jersey #12
- Some guy live-tweeting his nachos
- Three different schools claiming they were winning
Zero actual scoreboards. Felt like chasing my own tail.
The Phone Call Hail Mary
Finally remembered my buddy Dave’s kid plays for Jefferson High. Called Dave during halftime – phone went straight to voicemail. Tried again after what felt like forever. He answered sounding like he’d run a marathon.
Me: “Dave! Who’s winning?”
Dave: “Are you kidding? I’m losing my voice screaming! Martinsburg’s up by 3 but Cabell’s got possession…”
Then the line cut out. Classic.
Putting It Together
Checked Twitter one last time after Dave’s dropped call. Saw Cabell Midland’s official account finally posted something concrete:
- Final quarter: 68-65 Martinsburg
- Last minute foul shot by #30
- Cabell turnover with 12 seconds left
There it was. Martinsburg took the championship by three points. Whole mess of searching just to find out what Dave already told me before we got cut off. Should’ve just waited for his call back instead of burning two hours online.
