Needing That Schedule ASAP
This morning my kid comes running down, totally hyped. “Dad! Kealakee varsity football tryouts start SOON! I NEED the schedule!” Right? You know how it is. Kid’s bouncing off the walls, practically vibrating with excitement. So I figured, okay, no sweat. I’ll find that Kealakee High football schedule for him real quick. Grab my coffee, sit down at the kitchen table with my laptop.
First thing I did was what anyone would do. Pulled up Google on my browser. Typed in “Kealakee High School football schedule 2024”. Hit enter. Easy enough, yeah?
Nope.
- First result was some ticket selling site, generic schedules everywhere. Not helpful.
- Next one down? A local news article from LAST YEAR. Seriously, 2023 schedule. Useless.
- Scrolled further… county athletic association site? Just league rules, no schedules posted for anyone yet.
- Even checked the big national high school sports sites. Zilch for Kealakee. Frustrating!
Time to Dig Deeper
Coffee getting cold. Kid poking his head in every five minutes asking if I found it. Pressure’s on! Decided to ditch the wide net search and go straight to the source. Tried Kealakee High School’s own website.
Went to the ‘Athletics’ section. Found the Football page. Looked hopeful! Scrolled… and scrolled… announcements, coaching staff bios, fundraisers… NO schedule listing anywhere. Like, how hard can it be? Seriously?
Okay, new plan. Remembered the boosters run a Facebook thing. Logged into my account, sorta reluctantly. Typed “Kealakee Football Boosters” in the search. Found their page. Phew! Recent activity. Started scrolling posts. Mostly fundraising stuff for uniforms… pics from last season… a couple announcements about summer workouts… but still no freakin’ schedule with dates and times. Getting annoyed now.
Finally Struck Gold
Sat back, scratched my head. Thought maybe the official high school site had a calendar function I missed? Went back there. Buried deep in the menu was a “District Calendar”. Clicked that. It was a huge PDF for the entire school district. Massive document.
Opened it. Searched for “football”. CTRL+F is my friend here. Scanned… ah! There it was! Tiny little section listing “Varsity Football Game Dates & Times”. Jackpot! But man, they hide it deep.
Here’s what I finally got after all that hassle:
- Tryouts Start: July 29th, 3:30 PM sharp @ Practice Field 3.
- First Scrimmage: Aug 15th vs. Oak Hills, 6:00 PM (AWAY).
- Home Opener! Aug 30th vs. Mountain View, 7:30 PM (HOME under the lights!).
- Big Rivalry Game: Sept 27th vs. Westlake, 7:00 PM (AWAY – mark your calendars!)
- Regular Season Finale: Nov 1st vs. Ridgefield, 7:30 PM (HOME).
The Lesson? Never Assume!
Honestly, it should not have been that difficult. You’d think the official school website would have the dang schedule front and center for their biggest fall sport. Nope. Spent like 40 minutes digging through nonsense – generic searches, outdated info, buried PDF calendars. Wasted my whole first coffee. Kid got his dates though. Screenshot the calendar section, emailed it to him and the wife. Done. Hope this saves someone else the headache. Don’t rely on Google or the main Athletics page alone. Check that deep calendar!
