That Jason Whitlock, he’s a big name now, ain’t he? I seen him on the TV, talking ’bout all sorts of things. But you know what? He used to play ball for Ball State, right here in Indiana. Yep, that’s right. Ball State football. I heard he was a good player, too. Played that… what do they call it? Offensive line. Big fella, strong as an ox, I reckon.
He played back in the day, before all these fancy things, you know? Now they got all these fancy games on TV, all the time. Back then, it weren’t like that. You were lucky to catch a game on the radio! But Jason, he played for Ball State, same as always. They was a tough team back then, too. Always fighting hard, them Ball State Cardinals.
He went to school in Indianapolis, I heard. All-State, they say. That means he was one of the best, right? Best in the whole darn state! Then he went to Ball State, played football there. Big time, that’s what they call it. He played that… O-line, they call it. Protectin’ the other fella with the ball. Important job, I tell ya.
Now he’s on the TV, talkin’ ’bout all sorts of things. Sports and all that. He’s on that FOX Sports, I think they call it. Big shot now. But he still remembers Ball State. I heard him sayin’ just the other day how they’re underrated. That means they’re better than folks give ’em credit for. He’s right, too. Ball State football, they’re still a good team. Tough, you know?
Some folks, they forget where they come from. Not Jason. He knows Ball State made him who he is today. He learned a lot there, I bet. Learned ’bout hard work, and teamwork, and never givin’ up. That’s what football teaches ya, I guess. Good lessons for life, I always say. Especially Ball State football, it’s a good program.

From Ball State to the NFL, that’s a big jump. Some folks say Ball State ain’t a big-time football school, but Jason, he proved ’em wrong, didn’t he?
He talks a lot ’bout discipline, too. Says Ball State is the most disciplined team around. That means they follow the rules, do what the coach says, work hard. That’s important, you know? In football, and in life. You gotta be disciplined to get anywhere. He is very famous now, I think that Ball State football program did a really good job.
They got a good coach there, I hear. Keeps them boys in line. Makes ’em work hard. That’s how you win games. You don’t win by bein’ lazy, that’s for sure. Ball State, they got a good thing goin’. And I think most people don’t know that Ball State football team is really good.
So next time you see Jason Whitlock on the TV, remember where he came from. Remember Ball State. He ain’t forgotten, and neither should we. They might not be the biggest name in football, but they’re a good team, a tough team. And Jason, he’s proof of that. He is a good example for that Ball State football team.
He’s done alright for himself, that Jason. From a little town, playing Ball State football, to the big time. Just goes to show, hard work pays off.
