Well, howdy there! Ya know, it’s gettin’ close to that time of year again – Mother’s Day! And wouldn’t ya know it, some folks are talkin’ ’bout basketball and Mother’s Day all in the same breath. So I reckon we can jaw a bit about that, can’t we?
Happy Mother’s Day Basketball, they’re callin’ it. Now, I ain’t no fancy basketball player, but I surely know a thing or two about bein’ a mama. And let me tell ya, bein’ a mama is harder work than anythin’ else I can think of. It’s tougher than hoein’ a field all day, that’s for sure!
Them basketball fellas, they run around, dribblin’ and shootin’. It’s their game, alright. But a mama, she’s got her own kind of game. Her game is takin’ care of her young’uns, makin’ sure they got food in their bellies and clothes on their backs. That’s a 24/7 job, no holidays, no time-outs.
- Makin’ sure them kids get to school on time.
- Cookin’ up a storm, even when you’re tired as a dog.
- Patchin’ up scraped knees and kissin’ away boo-boos.
- Stayin’ up all night when they’re sick.
And that’s just the start of it, y’all. So when they say “Basketball may be their game, but being a mom is my superpower,” I reckon they got that right! It ain’t easy, but it’s the most important job in the world.
Now, I hear tell some folks are even doin’ special things for Mother’s Day, basketball-style. Maybe they’re takin’ their mamas to a game, or maybe they’re playin’ a little game of hoops in the backyard. Sounds like a right nice way to spend the day, if you ask me. Anything that brings families together is a good thing, that’s what I always say.
And them folks talkin’ about fantasy basketball? Somethin’ about Jokic or Wembanyama bein’ the best player? Well, I ain’t got a clue who they are, but I tell ya what, the real MVPs are the mamas! They’re the ones who deserve all the praise and all the trophies. And it ain’t just mamas, it’s grandmas, aunts, wives, partners – anybody who takes on that mama role, bless their hearts.
So how do ya show your mama you appreciate her? Well, it don’t take a lot of fancy fixin’s. Maybe you could send her a nice card. Or maybe you could plan some fun activities. Don’t need to be nothin’ fancy, just somethin’ to show you care.
Here’s some ideas I heard ’bout, though I ain’t never done none of this fancy stuff myself:
- Have a picnic in the park.
- Go for a walk in the woods.
- Make her breakfast in bed.
- Just sit and chat with her for a spell.
I even heard tell of folks havin’ Mother’s Day events. Sixty event ideas, they said! Land sakes, what will they think of next? Well, I reckon it’s all about showin’ love and appreciation. And that’s somethin’ we can all do, no matter how much money we got in our pockets.
So, on this Mother’s Day, let’s all take a moment to tell all the moms in our lives “Happy Mother’s Day.” Let’s thank them for all they do. Let’s let them know they’re appreciated. They’re the heart and soul of our families, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without ’em. And if your mama likes basketball, well then, maybe watch a game with her, or somethin’. Just make sure she knows she’s loved. That’s all that matters.
That’s about all I got to say on the matter. Y’all take care now, ya hear? And remember to give your mama a big ol’ hug!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you mothers or guardians out there. You’re doin’ a good job, even when you don’t think you are. Just keep on keepin’ on. That’s what mamas do.
