So last weekend I’m sitting there chugging coffee and realize nobody’s giving quick Grove City Greyhounds football updates – just weird outdated web pages and that trash school sports app that never works right. Wanted to know if my cousin’s kid got any playtime against Westerville South last Friday night.
First thing I did? Tried their official athletics site like some naive rookie. Total joke – that page looked like it hadn’t been touched since 2004. Schedule still showed last season’s games. Even tried calling the athletic office but only got voicemail. Just left hanging there like soggy laundry.
Got desperate enough to actually search “Grove City high football 2024 scores” on my phone while cooking eggs. First few links were bleacher sites talking about stats from 2022 – depressing as hell. Then suddenly bam! Found their MaxPreps page buried deep but even that didn’t have the latest Central Crossing game. Like hunting for gold in a sewer pipe.
Took matters into my own hands then:
- Checked the team’s Facebook group – had to scroll past ten thousand “Pray for Billy’s ankle!” posts before seeing someone posted final scores
- Found the Westerville game stats screenshot buried in Twitter replies when someone tagged Coach Evans
- Hassled my neighbor whose kid plays O-line – turns out the school actually emails parents PDFs that list times and locations
- Called my cousin directly to ask about playing time – spoiler: kid rode the bench again
Spent all Sunday morning dumping everything into one stupid document. Screenshots, scribbled numbers, napkin notes. Finally slapped together something actually useful for local folks:
- Aug 23: Got destroyed by Westerville South 35-14
- Aug 30: Surprise W against Central Crossing 21-17
- Sept 6: Going against Dublin Jerome at home – finally on our turf
Posted it all on my neighborhood blog late Sunday night. Already got six texts this morning saying it’s the only place that has the freaking Central Crossing score right. Wild how hard it is to find basic info when schools act like technology is witchcraft.
Gonna keep updating as games happen. Next time though? Might just camp in the bleachers with pen and paper.
