Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of fantasy football rankings, specifically looking at them position by position. I’ve always just kind of winged it in the past, grabbing players I recognized or who had a good week recently. But this year, I wanted to be more strategic, so I figured, why not break it down?

Getting Started
First, I opened up my laptop and fired up Google. I mean, where else do you start? I typed in something like “position by position fantasy football rankings 2023” and hit enter. I was immediately hit with like a million different websites. Sheesh, information overload!
Filtering Through the Noise
I started clicking on a few of the top results. Some sites were just awful – pop-ups everywhere, confusing layouts, you name it. I quickly closed those out. I stuck with the bigger names, the ones that looked a little more professional, you know?
Compiling My Data (Spreadsheet Time!)
I decided to create my own spreadsheet. Yup, I went full nerd. I opened up Google Sheets (because it’s free and easy) and started making columns: Player Name, Position, Rank (from Site 1), Rank (from Site 2), Rank (from Site 3), and then an Average Rank column. I wanted to get a consensus, not just rely on one single source.
The Tedious Part
- I spent the next hour or so going back and forth between the different ranking sites.
- I copy and pasted player names and their rankings into my spreadsheet. It was a little tedious, I won’t lie.
- Made coffee to continue.
- Focusing on the Top 50 or so players at each major position: QB, RB, WR, TE.
Calculating the Averages
Once I had all the data in, I used the spreadsheet’s built-in functions to calculate the average rank for each player across the three sources I was using. This gave me a pretty good idea of how each player was valued overall.
My Final Product
After all that work, I finally had a pretty solid set of position-by-position rankings that I felt comfortable with. It wasn’t perfect, of course, but it was way better than just guessing! I felt much more informed and prepared for my upcoming fantasy draft.
It was a bit of a grind, but hey, that’s what it takes to be a fantasy football champion, right? Or at least, not finish in last place. That’s my goal!
