Alright, so I decided to get a jump on the 2024 Fantasy Football season by doing a mock draft. I figured, why not? It’s never too early to start prepping, right?

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a platform. There are tons out there, I just picked one that looked decent and had good reviews. Nothing fancy, just something to get the job done.
I set up the draft with pretty standard settings: 12 teams, PPR (points per reception) scoring, and a snake draft format. I wanted a realistic feel, you know?
The Draft Begins!
I randomly got assigned draft position number 5. Not bad, not great. Middle of the pack. The draft started, and man, the first few picks went fast! The usual suspects were gone quick – top running backs and wide receivers.
When my turn came up, I was staring at the board, trying to figure out my best move. I decided to go with a solid wide receiver, somebody I knew would get a lot of targets.
The next few rounds were a blur. I focused on grabbing a mix of running backs, wide receivers, and a tight end. I wanted to make sure I had a balanced roster, not too heavy in any one position.
I made a mental note that, “I have to find a quarterback that is a strong player!”
Mid-Draft Strategy
Around the middle rounds, things got interesting. This is where you can really find some value. I started looking for players who might be flying under the radar, maybe guys on new teams or coming back from injury. This is where I was thinking I can have some advantage.
I also kept an eye on what other teams were doing. If I noticed a position getting thin, I might grab a player at that position, even if it wasn’t my top priority. You gotta play the board, not just your own team, you feel me?
Late Rounds and Sleepers
By this time, I needed to take the QB I had in mind. The player I picked can make a big difference to all the efforts I put before.
The last few rounds were all about finding sleepers. I took a chance on a couple of rookies and a veteran who switched teams. You never know who might break out, and that’s what makes these late-round picks so fun.
The Final Result
Finally, the draft was over. I stepped back and looked at my team. It wasn’t perfect, but I felt pretty good about it. I had a good mix of proven players and potential upside guys.
Of course, a mock draft is just practice. The real season is a whole different animal. But doing this mock draft definitely helped me get a better feel for the player pool and start thinking about my strategy for the real thing. Now, I’ve got a better idea of who I might target and what positions I need to focus on. Plus, it was just plain fun!
