Alright, so I’ve been messing around with fantasy football for a while now, and this year I decided to really dive in and try to, you know, actually be good at it. I figured the best place to start was figuring out which players to pick. Sounds obvious, right? But it’s harder than it looks!

My Starting Point: Pure Gut Feeling
First, I just started listing players I liked. You know, the big names, the guys who always seem to score a ton of points. I went purely on gut feeling and past performance, without much thought.
- Quarterback: The usual suspects. Think top guys.
- Running Backs: I went for the workhorses, the guys who get a ton of carries.
- Wide Receivers: Focused on those with a history of big plays.
- Tight End: Anyone got name, pick them.
Digging a Little Deeper
Then, I thought, “Okay, this is probably not the best strategy.” So, I started doing some, basic research, Nothing fancy, just checking out some expert rankings and articles online. Reading, you know?
I wanted to make sure the experts thought my picks by gut were okay. I looked for guys, like:
- Consistent performers.
- Players on high-scoring offenses.
- Guys who don’t get injured much.
Found few different, swap them!
Adding Some Stats (Just a Little!)
Next, I figured I should probably look at some stats. I’m not a numbers guy, so I kept it simple. Things like:
- Targets: For receivers, how many times the ball is thrown their way.
- Rushing Attempts: For running backs, how often they run the ball.
- Touchdowns: Obviously, who scores the most points.
Compare those stats to the expert’s pick, and start to adjust my list.
Considering the Bye Weeks
Okay, this is where I almost messed up. I totally forgot about bye weeks! You don’t want all your star players to have the same bye week, or you’re screwed. So, I checked: Make sure my top guys have bye weeks at different times.
The Final(ish) List
After all that, I had a much better list. It’s still not perfect, and I’ll probably change it a million times before the draft, but it’s a solid starting point. It felt way better than just picking names I recognized! The whole process took, I don’t know, a few evenings of messing around online and jotting down names. Now, I have the confidence for my draft!
