Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this fantasy basketball thing for a while now, and let me tell you, figuring out who to start each day can be a real headache. But I think I’ve finally started to get the hang of it, so I figured I’d share my process in case anyone else is struggling.

First off, I used to just go with my gut, you know? I’d pick the players I liked, the big names, without really thinking about the matchups or anything. That didn’t work out too well. I learned that lesson the hard way, ending up on the losing end more times than I’d like to admit.
So, I started digging into the schedules. This past week, there were a bunch of games – like, 14 on Saturday alone! That’s 28 teams to keep track of. It’s a lot, but it’s important because you gotta see who’s playing who. You don’t want to start a guy who’s going up against a top-tier defense if you can help it. It’s like there are too many things to watch, it’s just hard to watch all the game every time. I also started following some of those fantasy basketball guys on social media.
Then, I started to look at the individual players, see who’s been hot and who’s been cold. There’s this thing called “risers and fallers” that some websites do, and that’s been pretty helpful. It’s like, you wanna jump on a guy who’s on a hot streak, right? Because they are more likely to have a good perfermance in the next game. It’s like you can expect him to perform well as before. It’s not just about who is the star or not, but if the player has a good perfermance recently. But don’t get a guy who’s been stinking it up. I also got this app called DraftKings, and FanDuel is another one, and they give you these “daily fantasy picks.”
Another thing I started doing was checking out the injury reports. You don’t wanna start a guy who’s questionable or, even worse, out. That’s just a waste of a roster spot. So I always look at who’s injured before I finalize my lineup. A start player who is injured is just a waste of time, he is not going to play after all.
I also started paying attention to the positions I needed to fill. Like, if I’m short on point guards one day, I’ll try to find one who’s got a good matchup and has been playing well. It’s all about balancing your roster and trying to maximize your points in each category. You cannot start a player no matter how good he is if his position is full.
Honestly, it’s still a work in progress. I’m not winning every week or anything, but I’m definitely doing better than I was at the beginning. It’s all about putting in the time and doing your research, man. And even then, there’s always some luck involved. You never know when a player’s gonna have a monster game or a total dud. Even stars can have a bad day in the game.
I tried these things and it worked out great. It’s just fun when you finally start to win the game, feels like all those things I did were worth it.
Here’s what I do:
- Check the schedule. See who’s playing and how many games they have that week.
- Look at matchups. Avoid starting players against tough defenses.
- Consider recent performance. Find the “risers” and avoid the “fallers.”
- Check injury reports. Don’t start injured players!
- Balance your roster. Make sure you have players for each position.
It’s a grind, but it’s kind of fun once you get into it. At least, it’s more fun than losing all the time! Hope this helps someone out there. Good luck with your fantasy teams, everybody!
