Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this fantasy basketball thing for a while now, and let me tell you, figuring out these point rankings is a whole ordeal. I started this season super pumped, thinking I knew my stuff. I jumped right in and started tracking everything, from points scored to rebounds grabbed, you name it. My initial plan? Just go with my gut and pick players I liked.
First things first, I had to decide how we were going to score this thing. You got your Rotisserie and your Head-to-Head. Sounded complicated at first, but it’s not rocket science. I went with Head-to-Head because I wanted to see those weekly showdowns. I tried to compile a list of players, looking at their past performances and all that jazz. I got all these names from different places, trying to guess who’s gonna be hot this season. I wrote down names like Victor Wembanyama, Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Karl-Anthony Towns. These guys seemed like safe bets, right?
I started making lists, breaking it down by position. Then I started comparing my initial rankings with what some of the so-called experts were saying. There are tons of rankings out there, and each one is a bit different, so I spent days, maybe even weeks, trying to make sense of it all. Some of the guys had different players in the top 200 than what I’d come up with, and that really threw me for a loop. For example, I had this one player ranked pretty high up, but then I saw some expert list where he was way down. Made me second-guess everything. I felt like I was drowning in numbers, comparing stats, trying to predict injuries, and considering how many games each player might actually play.
So, I made a spreadsheet. Yeah, a real nerdy spreadsheet with colors and everything. I put all the players in there, their positions, teams, and a bunch of stats. This was supposed to help me visualize everything, make it easier to compare and rank them. It took hours to fill out, and honestly, it felt like a second job.
My “Expert” Rankings
After all that work, here’s a peek at what I came up with:
- 1. Victor Wembanyama (C, SA)
- 2. Nikola Jokic (C, DEN)
- 3. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (PG, SG, OKC)
- 4. Karl-Anthony Towns (PF, C, MIN)
I ended up revising my rankings like a million times. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I’d read something new or see a player have a killer game, and I’d be right back at the drawing board. Man, it’s exhausting. Turns out, predicting these things isn’t as easy as it looks. So, yeah, that’s my story. I’m still not sure if my rankings are any good, but hey, I’m learning. And at the end of the day, it’s all about having fun, right? Even if it does feel like I’m doing a bit too much math sometimes.
