Okay, so I wanted to get into fantasy basketball this year. I’ve done fantasy football for a while now, but basketball seemed like a whole different beast. But hey, why not give it a shot, right?
First thing I did was try to understand the scoring. My league is a points league, which, from what I gathered, is a bit different than, like, categories leagues. Basically, every stat – a point, a rebound, an assist – it all adds up to points for your players. The more points, the better. Makes sense, I guess.
So, I started looking around for rankings. I mean, how else are you supposed to know who’s good and who’s not, especially when you’re starting out? I found this one guy, Alex Burns, who had a list of his top 200 players for the 2024-2025 season. I figured, “Top 200? That’s gotta cover most of the guys I’ll be drafting, right?”
- Nikola Jokic – This guy was at the top of the list, and honestly, I’ve heard his name a lot. Apparently, he’s a beast. Averaging over 60 fantasy points per game!
- Anthony Davis – Another big name. This guy was second, with around 58 fantasy points. He’s listed as a power forward and a center.
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – Okay, this name was new to me, but he’s a point guard, and he’s putting up over 50 points a game.
- Jayson Tatum – Another familiar name. Small forward, also over 50 points a game.
These were just the top few, but this list by Burns went way deeper. I spent hours just scrolling through, trying to recognize names, looking at their positions, their average points. It was overwhelming, to be honest. But I kept at it because I really wanted to do well this season.
I also found some other experts, like Andre Snellings, Eric Moody, and Eric Karabell. It seemed like everyone had their own rankings, their own opinions. It was a lot to take in, but I figured the more info, the better, right?
The one thing that kept popping up was how important it is to know your league’s settings. Like, some leagues might value three-pointers more, or steals, or blocks. So, even with these rankings, I knew I had to keep that in mind. I made a note to double-check our league rules before the draft.
I’m still not sure how I’m going to do in my draft. There’s so much to learn, so many players to keep track of. But I feel like I’ve at least got a decent starting point. I’ve got some names to target, some positions to focus on, and a general idea of how to build a solid team. Hopefully, it all pays off, and I don’t end up in last place. Fingers crossed!
