Okay, so, fantasy baseball season is coming, and I’m starting to get the itch. Every year, I tell myself I’m gonna do it right this time, you know? No more last-minute panic picks, no more ending up with a team full of benchwarmers. This year, I’m going to be prepared. And that preparation starts now, today!

First things first, I gotta figure out my draft strategy. I mean, who am I even going to pick? It’s overwhelming! So, I dug out my old notebooks from last season. I started by looking at last year’s draft. What a disaster! I went in blind, picked players based on gut feelings, and ended up regretting half my choices by week two. Definitely not doing that again.
So, I decided to get a little more organized. I opened up the website, you know, the one everyone uses, and signed up to start looking around at the players. I also started looking for advice and guides. That’s where I found some other folks talking about their draft plans, which gave me some ideas.
Then I made a list. Not just any list, a list of every single player I thought might be decent, ranked them based on their stats, and position.
- Round 1-3: Here’s where you gotta snag those big-name players, the ones who are going to carry your team. I’m talking about your power hitters, your aces, the guys who are consistently at the top of the leaderboards.
- Round 4-7: This is where things get interesting. You still want some solid players here, but you also need to start thinking about balance. Maybe grab a reliable starting pitcher or a good outfielder.
- Round 8-12: This is where I think I messed up last year. I just started picking random names. This time, I’m going to focus on getting players who might be undervalued, guys who could potentially have a breakout season.
- Round 13+: Okay, let’s be honest, this is mostly a crapshoot. But you can still find some hidden gems here. Rookies, players coming back from injury, maybe a closer who’s in line for more saves.
I also jotted down some notes about which positions I wanted to prioritize. For example, I’m thinking of going heavy on pitching early on. Last year, my pitching staff was a mess, and it cost me big time. I also want to make sure I have a strong catcher and a couple of good outfielders.
I spent a few hours on this whole process, just browsing stats, reading articles, and comparing player rankings from different sources. It’s a lot of work, but I figure it’s worth it in the long run.
The Mock Draft
I even did a couple of mock drafts online. It’s a good way to practice your strategy and see how things might play out. The first one was a mess, total bedlam, and not everyone seems to have done their research, just like me last year, lol! But it helped me get a feel for the draft flow and identify some potential sleepers.
So, that’s where I’m at right now. I feel a lot better than I did last year at this time. I have a plan, I have a list, and I have a decent idea of who I want to target in each round. Of course, things can change between now and draft day, but at least I’m not going in blind. Wish me luck! I’ll keep you guys updated on how it goes.
