So last Tuesday I was digging through my tennis gear before practice and realized how my black bag looks exactly like three other bags at the club. I mean, seriously – we all bought the same Adidas bag during that big sale. I got so sick of almost walking off with Sarah’s bag last month that I finally decided to personalize mine with bag tags. Here’s exactly what went down.

The Great “Lost Bag” Drama
First, I raided my junk drawer like a maniac. Found these plastic keychains from that conference five years ago – perfect! They were kinda dusty so I rinsed them under the sink. Pro tip: wipe ’em dry properly or marker ink bleeds like crazy (learned that the hard way).
Materials dump:
- ☑️ 2 plastic luggage tags
- ☑️ Permanent markers (red/blue)
- ☑️ Old keyring
- ☑️ Scissors
- ☑️ Scrap cardboard
Marker Mayhem & Hole Punch Surprise
I slid cardboard inside the tag so ink wouldn’t soak through – total game changer. Drew my favorite star shape real slow on the first tag. Messed up? Spit on a tissue and scrubbed it off before it dried (gross but effective). For my name tag, I just wrote “MIKE” in big block letters with the blue marker. Looks like a kid did it? Whatever, it’s readable from across the court.
Punched holes using scissors because I couldn’t find my hole punch. Ended up with lopsided holes that made the tags hang sideways. Whatever – gives it character. Hooked both tags to the keyring and clipped it to my bag’s zipper. Job done in maybe twenty minutes while watching reruns of “The Office”.
Results? Surprisingly Okay!
Took my Frankenstein bag to practice yesterday. Tags smudged a tiny bit in the rain, but hey – nobody grabbed my bag! Tom actually complimented my janky star drawing. Now Sarah’s ordering custom tags online because mine “look fun” – imagine that. Total cost: zero bucks since I used trash drawer finds. Next time maybe I’ll use stickers or tape for waterproofing.
