Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of season fantasy football rankings. I’ve played fantasy football for years, but I’ve always kind of winged it when it comes to pre-season prep. This year, I’m determined to be more organized, so I figured, why not try creating my own rankings?

First, I grabbed a pen and a notebook – yeah, I’m old school like that. I could have used a spreadsheet, but I find it easier to brainstorm on paper. Then, I started listing out all the positions: Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Wide Receivers, Tight Ends, Kickers, and Defense/Special Teams.
Next, I started jotting down names. I began with the players I know are going to be good – the big names, the guys who always put up points. I used different colored ink for players that I thought were a bit of sleeper picks.
- For Quarterbacks, I started with the obvious choices, you know, the guys throwing touchdowns every week.
- Running Backs were next. I focused on the guys who get a ton of carries and catches.
- Then came Wide Receivers – the speedsters and the reliable possession guys.
- Tight Ends are always tricky, so I looked at guys who are consistent targets.
- And Kickers is all about accuracy.
- Lastly the DST, are the ones who can make some noise.
After I had a decent list for each position, I started trying to rank them. This is where it got tough. I mean, how do you really compare a quarterback to a running back? I ended up creating tiers within each position. Like, “Elite,” “Solid Starters,” “Potential Breakouts,” “Bench Depth,” and so on.
I spent a good couple of hours moving names around, erasing, and rewriting. It’s definitely a messy process! I also flipped through some magazines and checked out some websites just to make sure I wasn’t totally off-base with my thinking. It’s good to get a second, third, and fourth opinion, right?
Finally, I had something that resembled a set of rankings. It’s not perfect, and I’m sure I’ll be tweaking it a ton before the season starts, but it’s a start! It felt good to actually put some thought into it instead of just going with my gut on draft day.
