Alright guys, so I’ve been hitting tennis balls for a while now at different spots around town, right? And honestly, Castle Hill Tennis Courts kept popping up in conversations. People raving about it. Figured, hey, why not actually put it to the test? See how it stacks up against some other courts I usually play at. Just grabbed my gear, my notebook, and off I went.

Just Showing Up and First Looks
First stop was Parkview Courts. Got there mid-morning, hoping for a quick hit. You know what happened? Full. Like, completely packed. Waited around for half an hour, sweat already dripping, but nothing opened up. Felt kind of annoyed, honestly. Decided to snap a few pics of the courts. Surface was okay, I guess? Plenty of cracks though, like spiderwebs all over. Nets were kinda saggy too. Didn’t see a single water fountain anywhere. Nada. Harsh under the sun. Saw the booking sheet later… looked chaotic, like people just scribbling over each other’s names. Felt messy.
Next, swung by the Community Rec Center courts. Paid my five bucks entry, felt a little ripped off already. Place felt tired. Surface felt weirdly sticky? Like my shoes were dragging more than usual. Only three courts squeezed together. Felt cramped, almost claustrophobic. And get this, the chain link fence was rusting pretty bad in spots. Only one shared bench for all courts. Saw people waiting just leaning on their bags on the ground. Zero atmosphere, zero convenience. Just… bare minimum stuff.
Then Checking Out Castle Hill
Alright, finally drove out to Castle Hill. Couldn’t help but notice the big sign pointing to the tennis courts straight away – easy to find, big plus. Pulled into the car park – loads of space, found a spot right near the entrance gate, no stress. Paid for a one-hour session easily at the machine. Walked through the gate, and bam. Hit me right away how different it felt.
- Biggest thing? Space. Eight courts! All lined up proper. Empty lanes between them. No way you’d accidentally smack a ball onto the next court over. Felt good.
- Surface? Seriously smooth. Like, noticeably different just walking on it. Felt faster underfoot, the bounce was super true. Compared it directly to my Parkview pics and yeah, almost no cracks here. Just clean.
- Nets were tight as heck. Looked brand new, actually.
- Benches! Every court has its own bench. Didn’t see that anywhere else! Plus proper shaded shelters every couple courts. Place to sit, hide from the sun? Genius.
- And water fountains? Yes! Clean ones too. Actually drank from it! Big relief.
- The whole vibe? Organized. Calm. People booked properly online (saw the signs), everyone seemed chilled. Saw some coaches giving lessons, kids playing junior matches… it looked like the place people actually wanted to play tennis.
Why Bother Comparing? What Actually Stood Out?
Putting all those visits next to each other really made some things crystal clear:
- Surface Quality: Castle Hill wiped the floor with the others. Consistent, maintained, no trip hazards.
- Booking Headaches: Waiting for scraps vs. booking online instantly? No contest.
- Basic Needs Met: Water. Shelter. Enough benches. The other places felt like they forgot people get thirsty or need shade.
- Court Layout & Crowding: Breathing room at Castle Hill? Priceless. Didn’t feel like I was dodging other players.
- Overall Feel: The others felt like forgotten corners. Castle Hill felt like someone actually gave a damn about tennis.
Look, none of these places are Wimbledon, obviously. But if you actually enjoy playing tennis? Stuff like a decent surface, having a spot to put your bag without it getting baked, having water without needing to lug a gallon? Actually being able to book reliably? That stuff adds up big time. Spent the whole hour at Castle Hill just enjoying the hit, zero frustration. Ended up chatting to another player during the break who raved about the junior programs there too. Felt like a proper tennis club vibe, without the crazy membership fees.
