So this morning I decided to figure out Brighton High’s football starters for the upcoming season. Woke up early, grabbed coffee, and opened my laptop thinking it’d be simple. Boy was I wrong.

First thing I did was search “Brighton high school football roster” online. The school website was a mess – couldn’t find squat. Tried the athletics page, team schedules, even the booster club site. Nothing current. Called their athletic department but got voicemail. Left a message that probably sounded desperate.
After lunch with no callback, I drove straight to the school. Security guard pointed me to Coach Miller’s office. Found him yelling drills on the practice field. Waited 20 minutes sweating in the sun while he finished drills.
When I asked about starters, he laughed. “Roster ain’t set yet – position battles ongoing!” He did give me last year’s roster printout though. Crossed out at least six graduated seniors right there with my pen. The offensive line looked gutted.
Here’s what I pieced together watching evening practice:
- QB: Still Johnson (number 9) taking all first-team snaps
- RB: New sophomore Carter got majority reps over Peterson
- Defense: Big #78 Davis anchoring at DT, moved from DE last season
- Question mark: WR position – four different guys rotating with starters
Ended up chatting with assistant coach Thompson after practice. Confirmed they’re testing Roberts at safety after playing WR last two seasons. Also said freshman kicker Morales might start – kid has a cannon leg.
Left school around dusk with muddy shoes and chicken scratch notes. Whole day vanished just to get halfway answers. Moral of the story? High school sports info moves slower than traffic on game night.
