So, I decided to check out Sue Lyon Park today. I’ve been meaning to get back into tennis, and I heard this place has some decent courts. I packed my racket, some balls, and a water bottle, and headed over.

When I got there, I saw that the park is pretty small but has a lot going on. There are basketball courts, a playground for kids, and even some picnic tables. But I was there for the tennis courts. They have five red clay courts, which is cool because you don’t see those everywhere. Most places around here just have those hard acrylic courts, you know, the concrete or asphalt ones.
- First Impression: The courts looked a bit worn, but hey, they’re public courts, what can you expect?
I started hitting some balls against the wall to warm up. After a while, a couple of guys showed up and asked if I wanted to play doubles. I’m not exactly a pro, but I figured, why not? It’s all about having fun, right?
- Gameplay: We played for about an hour. It was a good workout, and I even managed to win a few points. My backhand is still pretty rusty, though.
After our game, I took a stroll around the park. There’s a small lake with some ducks swimming around. It’s a peaceful little spot in the middle of the city. I saw some people walking their dogs, and families having picnics. Seems like a good community vibe.
- Overall Vibe: It’s a chill place. Not too crowded, and people seem friendly. I even chatted with an old lady who was feeding the ducks. She told me she comes here every day.
Final Thoughts
I’ll definitely be back to Sue Lyon Park. Maybe not for serious training, but it’s a great spot to hit some balls and enjoy the outdoors. Plus, it’s free! You can’t beat that. I might even try to get a regular game going with those guys I met today. We’ll see. It’s all about having fun and staying active, you know?
