Alright, so I’ve been messing around with Fantasy Football for a while now, and I figured I’d share some of the stuff I’ve picked up. It’s not rocket science, but a few good moves can really boost your chances.

Draft Day Prep
First things first, I started by doing some homework. I didn’t go crazy, but I looked at some rankings and cheat sheets online. Just to get a feel for who’s supposed to be good this year.
Then, I joined a mock draft or two. This is HUGE. It’s like a practice run. You get to see where players are generally going, and you can test out different strategies without messing up your actual league.
The Draft Itself
- Don’t get too attached to any one player. I’ve made that mistake before. You get tunnel vision and end up overpaying.
- I tried to grab a solid running back and wide receiver in the first couple of rounds. These are your workhorses.
- Waited on quarterback and tight end. There are usually decent options available later. Unless you can get a top top guy, it is my way.
- Pay attention on the other teams. if everyone is loading up on the running backs, maybe you zig while they zag and grab an elite wide receiver.
Working the Waiver Wire
So, the draft is over, but the season is just getting started.
I kept my eyes on the waiver wire. This is where you can pick up free agents. I got a couple of my best players from free agents who had breakout games.
I also looked for players who were getting more playing time because of injuries. Someone always gets hurt, and their backup can suddenly become valuable.
Trades (Optional)
To be honest, I’m not a huge trader. But, if you can spot a weakness on another team and you have a player they need, you can try it.
Keeping Up
Finally, I tried to stay updated throughout the season. I read some articles, listened to a podcast or two. Just to get a sense of who’s hot and who’s not.
That’s pretty much it. It’s all about staying flexible and making smart moves.
It’s a game, so have some fun, and you will get your way finally!
