Okay so yesterday I got this message from my cousin Jimmy. His kid plays for Belton High and he’s always forgetting game times. Like, always. “Can you just find the dang schedule and send it to me?” he asks. Simple enough, right? Wrong.

First Try: The School Website Mess
Went straight to Belton High’s official site. Figured it’d be right there. Sports section? Found it. Football? Clicked. All I got was some hype text about the team spirit and a dusty old photo of the coach. No schedule. Nothing. Scrolled up and down like five times thinking I missed it. Nope. Not a single date or time listed. Just useless fluff. Felt kinda dumb wasting ten minutes on that.
Second Try: Google To The Rescue?
Alright, fired up Google. Typed in “belton high school football schedule”. Tons of results popped up. Cool. Clicked the first few links. Mistake. One was for last season – total garbage. Another one looked legit but asked for login stuff? Some parent portal thing? Jimmy sure ain’t got that. Another site had scores but no future games. Felt like running in circles. Annoying.
Finding The Gold (Sort Of)
Finally, like 20 minutes deep into this wild goose chase, I spotted something that looked promising. Some local league page or athletics hub thing. Looked official-ish. And there it was! Belton High Tigers Football, with a whole list underneath!
Felt like a victory. Copied it all down quick:
- Friday, Sept 8th vs. Oakwood Knights – Home @ 7:30 PM
- Friday, Sept 15th @ Riverside Ravens – 7:00 PM
- Friday, Sept 22nd vs. Summit Spartans – Home @ 7:30 PM
- Friday, Sept 29th @ Valley Vipers – 7:30 PM
- Friday, Oct 6th vs. Lakeside Lions – Homecoming! @ 8:00 PM
- Friday, Oct 13th @ Mountain Mustangs – 7:00 PM
Sent the list straight to Jimmy. Done. Figured I was a hero.
The “Oh, Great” Moment
Jimmy calls me back five minutes later. “Hey man, thanks… but Oct 13th? That’s my anniversary weekend. We booked a trip! Where’s October 20th?” What? Didn’t see that. Went back to the site. Scrolled down further… way further. Yep. Tiny little note underneath the list:
“Playoffs begin October 20th. Schedule TBD.”
Classic. Jimmy’s playoff game doesn’t even exist on the schedule yet. And his trip starts exactly when the playoffs might start. So even after all that digging, I basically gave him half an answer and one huge “good luck figuring that out.”
Ended up telling Jimmy he better just bookmark that league page and check it every dang Thursday night if he wants to know where his kid is playing past October. What a pain. And now he owes me a burger for the trouble. Always something.
