So, I was digging into this whole “NFL depth” thing today, and let me tell you, it’s a rabbit hole. I started out just wanting to understand my fantasy team better, but it turned into a whole afternoon project.
First, I grabbed my laptop and fired up the browser. I figured the official NFL site would be a good starting point, right? I went straight to the team pages, looking for depth charts.
Finding the Depth Charts
It took a little clicking around. I landed on the team roster, at first. Then I realized depth charts are sometimes under a seperate sub-menu item or a seperate *, I went through each team, one by one, and started copying down the info.
- Initially, I just jotted everything down in a text file. Just names, positions, the whole deal.
- Then, it got messy. I needed a better way to organize it.
Organizing the Data
So I opened up a new notepad, and created tables and began to sort it all there.
This is where it got interesting. I started noticing patterns. Like, some teams are stacked at wide receiver, while others are relying on rookies. It really gives you a different perspective on the game.
Making Sense of It All
After I had all the data entered, I started playing around with it.I color coded based on my understanding.I compared the different team and finally figure out their strategy.
It’s definitely not a perfect system, and I’m sure the pros have way more sophisticated ways of doing this, but for a regular fan like me, it was pretty enlightening. I feel like I have a much better grasp of how teams are built now, and hopefully, it’ll help me make some smarter fantasy football decisions! Or, at least, I’ll sound like I know what I’m talking about.
