Alright folks, gotta tell you ’bout how I managed to actually kinda sorta keep up with the All State Girls Basketball scene this year. It ain’t been easy, but man, it’s been interesting trying to follow my niece’s team across the state.

How It All Started
First thing? Realized I needed a damn plan. Kept missing games last season ’cause I’d flat out forget ’em. Felt awful. So, this January, sat my butt down and promised myself to get organized.
Step one: findin’ where the heck the games even are.
Found this statewide high school sports results page. You gotta dig, it ain’t pretty. Typed “Girls Basketball” and “2025” into their clunky search box like fifty times. Hit the jackpot eventually – schedules, locations, the works. Bookmarked that sucker pronto.
Firing Up the Tech Stuff
Step two: figuring out how to actually watch.
Thought it would be easy, ha! Learned real quick:
- Follow the team accounts. Took me a solid evening to find the official social media handles for their school and the main booster club. Followed both. Turned on notifications. Boom, instant game reminders on my phone.
- Local streams are messy. Found out sometimes the school streams games live, but only if someone volunteers. Hit or miss. Signed up for a free live sports site, watched one game okay, next one was like watching scrambled eggs. Damn frustrating.
- Radio? Seriously? Yeah, sounds old school, but actually found a local AM station for away games when streams died. My car radio felt useful for once.
Step three: stats, man. Wanted to know more than just the score. Tracked down that big high school stats aggregator site. Learned to navigate it, kinda. Found her player profile, clicked through. Points, rebounds – the basic stuff I cared about. Bookmarked that page too. Finally felt like I knew what she was talking about.
Showin’ Up and Screwin’ Up
The big part: actually being there.
- Local games were easy. Just showed up. Still managed to be late once ’cause I mistook the start time. Rookie mistake.
- Road trips? That’s where it got real. Planned one major away game trip. Thought I was smart: checked the school site for the arena address. Drove two hours… ended up at the junior high campus. Turns out they hosted some games there too?! Nobody mentioned that online! Ended up missing the first half. Felt like a complete idiot. Learned my lesson: gotta call the school office to confirm venue changes. Every. Single. Time.
What Actually Stuck
So, after months of messin’ around, here’s what kinda worked for me:
- Trust the bookmarks. My browser looked ridiculous, but finding that schedule and stats page fast? Priceless.
- Social media ain’t just for cats. Getting those notifications meant I usually remembered game days, at least.
- Call the dang school. Sounds simple? Yeah, took me getting lost to figure it out. Don’t rely just on online stuff for away games – venues change.
- Go where the fans are. Found this local parents & fans online group. Posted, asked stupid questions. People actually helped! Got links to working streams sometimes.
It wasn’t perfect. Streams died. Roads confused me. Information was scattered everywhere like crumbs. But honestly? Figuring this crap out bit by bit, finally cheering live when her team made that clutch shot… kinda made the whole headache worth it. Still feel like a tech dinosaur half the time, but hey, at least I ain’t missin’ the big games now.
