Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into fantasy football prep for the 2024 season, and let me tell you, it’s a jungle out there. I wanted to share my process, from start to finish, because maybe it’ll help someone else out.

First, I started by just brainstorming. I made a list of all the players I thought would be good, based on last season and any news I’d heard about rookies or trades. This was super rough, just getting names on paper.
Scouring the Web
Then, I hit the internet. I checked out a bunch of different fantasy football websites, looking at their rankings and projections.
I am looking for articles with a strong analytical approach, focusing on advanced stats and not just gut feelings.
Building My Own Rankings
After gathering all this info, I started building my own spreadsheet. Yep, a good old-fashioned spreadsheet. I listed out all the players, their projected points (averaging from different sources), and their average draft position (ADP). This helps me see who might be undervalued or overvalued.
- Column 1: Player Name
- Column 2: Projected Points (Average)
- Column 3: Average Draft Position (ADP)
- Column 4: My personal notes.
I added notes like “injury risk” or “breakout potential” to help me remember my thoughts on each player.
The “Gut Check”
Finally, I went back through my list and did a “gut check.” Projections are great, but sometimes you just have a feeling about a player. I moved some guys up or down based on my own intuition, watching some game tape, and news of traning camp.
It’s a long process, but by the time my draft rolls around, I’ll have a solid list of players I’m targeting, and hopefully, I’ll dominate my league!
Now, I will continue to improve my player list through mock drafts.
