Okay, so, I wanted to mess around with some NFL data, specifically about wide receivers. I’ve always been a huge football fan, and I figured it would be cool to see if I could pull some stats and maybe learn something new.
First, I needed to find the data. This took a bit of searching, but I eventually stumbled upon some websites that had a ton of NFL stats, including detailed information on wide receivers. They weren’t exactly user-friendly, but I managed to get what I needed. It was a lot of just poking around and figuring out how to download the data in a format I could actually use.
Once I had the data, which was basically a giant spreadsheet, I started playing around with it. I used good old Excel to do this. I’m no data scientist, but I know the basics. I wanted to see things like who had the most receiving yards, touchdowns, receptions – you know, the usual stuff.
Sorting and Filtering
- Sorting: I did a bunch of sorting to rank the players by different stats. This was pretty straightforward. I could easily see who was leading in each category.
- Filtering: Then, I started filtering the data. I could look at specific seasons, teams, or even filter by a minimum number of games played to see the more active players.
I spent hours doing this, just exploring the data and seeing what I could find. It was really interesting to compare different players and see how their stats changed over time. I even found a few surprises – players I hadn’t heard of who were putting up really impressive numbers.
Creating Charts
After a while, I decided to make some charts to visualize the data. This was a bit more challenging, but I managed to create a few bar graphs and scatter plots. It was cool to see the data in a different way, and it made it easier to spot trends and patterns.
Honestly, I didn’t have any specific goals in mind when I started this. I just wanted to see what I could do with the data. It ended up being a lot of fun, and I learned a lot about wide receivers and how to work with data in general. I didn’t discover anything groundbreaking, but it was a great way to spend a few evenings. Maybe I will be more serious next time.
