Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this fantasy baseball thing for a while now, and this year, I really wanted to nail the draft. I mean, who doesn’t want to crush their league, right? So, I dove deep into figuring out a solid strategy for the 2024 draft.

First things first, I started by looking at loads of mock drafts. Just to get a feel for how things might go down. You see all sorts of approaches, but it’s a good starting point. I spent a good few evenings just simulating drafts, trying different tactics, seeing what felt right.
Then, I got into the player rankings. Oh boy, there are tons of those out there. Everyone’s got their own take, you know? I grabbed a bunch of different ones and started comparing them. Just looking for those players that seem to be undervalued. The potential steals, basically. You’ve gotta have some of those guys on your radar.
After that, I started thinking about roster construction. I mean, you can’t just grab all the best hitters and forget about pitching, right? It’s a balance. I figured out what kind of ratio of hitters to pitchers I was aiming for. Did I want to punt any categories? For me, I decided I would go strong on pitching and maybe let some stats slide a bit. But, I made sure I wouldn’t be totally useless in those categories, though.
- Hitters: 70%
- Pitchers: 30%
Next up, I dug into some stats. Not like, super deep, just the important stuff. I wanted to know who was projected to be good, obviously, but also who might be trending upwards. You know, those players who might be on the verge of a breakout year. Made a list of those guys. I kept track of things like, who’s going to get a lot of playing time, who’s got a good spot in the batting order, that sort of thing.
Positional scarcity was another big one. Certain positions dry up quick. I made sure I knew when I needed to grab a catcher, for example, so I didn’t get stuck with some scrub later on. I jotted down some notes on when I should be targeting each position, based on how the mock drafts usually went.
And then, I made myself a cheat sheet. Nothing fancy, just a list of players I liked, grouped by position and tier. I highlighted those potential steals I mentioned earlier. Also, I made sure to have some backup options in case my top choices got snatched up before I could grab ’em.
Finally, I practiced. I did a bunch more mock drafts, using my cheat sheet, trying to stick to my plan. It wasn’t always perfect, you know, sometimes you just gotta adjust on the fly. But it really helped me get comfortable with the whole process.
So, yeah, that’s basically what I did to get ready for my 2024 fantasy baseball draft. It was a lot of work, not gonna lie. But I feel pretty good about it. We’ll see how it all plays out, but at least I know I put in the effort. This is my year, I can feel it!
Recap of the mock draft I did today:
I tried to be more flexible on this mock draft and see how it would go. It turned out pretty well.
Round 1: I got lucky and snagged a top-tier starting pitcher. He was the last of my initial target.
Round 2-3: I locked down a solid first baseman and third baseman. Both of them was not on my pre-draft target list. But I think they will do just fine.
Round 4-6: Focused on outfielders. Got two power hitters and one with a good average. I am most excited about the second outfielder I got. He is young and will be a great player in a couple of years.
Round 7-9: Snagged another starting pitcher and two middle infielders. One of them can also play at outfield, which is a nice bonus.
Round 10-12: Got my catcher, a relief pitcher, and another bench bat.
Round 13-15: Grabbed two more pitchers and a backup first baseman. The rest of the picks were mostly for depth. I also drafted a few prospects that might be called up later in the season.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with how the team turned out. I got a good mix of power, speed, and pitching. Hopefully, this mock draft will translate into a successful season.
