Tennis Court Benches: Where to Find the Best Ones for Comfort and Durability?

Alright, folks, let me tell you about my little weekend project – building some benches for the local tennis court. I’m no expert, but I like to get my hands dirty and build stuff. Plus, the old benches were falling apart, so it was time for an upgrade.

Tennis Court Benches: Where to Find the Best Ones for Comfort and Durability?

First, I had to figure out what kind of benches I wanted. I saw that some places sell them, and they come in different lengths like 4′, 5′, 6′, and 8′. But where’s the fun in buying them? I wanted to make these myself. I thought about using heavy-duty aluminum, you know, the T6 grade stuff. Sounds tough, right?

Then there was this whole thing about the court itself. I learned that some courts are made of concrete, and it’s not just any concrete. It’s this “post-tensioned” kind that’s supposed to last longer and not crack as much. Makes sense, I guess. And get this, the cheapest type of court is made of clay, and it starts at around $25. Who knew?

But back to the benches. I decided to keep it simple and use wood. It’s easier to work with, and I had some leftover from another project. I started by measuring the space where the benches would go. I didn’t want them to be too big or too small. After measuring, I cut the wood to the right size. I went with a 6′ length, figuring it would be a good size for a few people to sit.

Next, I assembled the pieces. This involved a lot of screwing and hammering. I’m not gonna lie, my arms were pretty tired by the end of it. But seeing the benches take shape was worth it. I made sure everything was sturdy and level. No wobbly benches here!

  • Measure the space for the benches.
  • Cut the wood to the desired length.
  • Assemble the pieces using screws and a hammer.
  • Make sure the benches are sturdy and level.

After building the frames, I sanded down the wood to get rid of any rough edges. Then came the fun part – painting! I chose a nice, bright blue that matched the court’s colors. Two coats of paint and they were looking good.

Finally, I moved the benches to the court. They fit perfectly in the space I had measured out. Seeing people actually using them, sitting down between games, made all the hard work feel worthwhile. It’s a good feeling, you know? Creating something with your own hands and seeing it being used by others. I am very happy to see everyone is setisfied with these benches.

What I Realized

So, that’s the story of my tennis court bench project. It wasn’t too complicated, but it was a good learning experience. Plus, now the tennis players have some decent benches to sit on. Maybe next, I’ll tackle building a little storage shed for the court. We’ll see!
