Okay, so today I wanted to talk about my experience playing tennis in Hunterdon. I’ve been trying to get back into shape, and tennis seemed like a fun way to do it. Plus, I’ve always enjoyed the game, even though I’m not exactly a pro.

First off, finding a place to play was my initial hurdle. I searched online and found a few options. The top ones that popped up were Hillsborough Tennis Plus and Flemington Tennis Club. I also saw something about Winning Touch Tennis of Lehigh Valley, but that seemed a bit farther than I wanted to travel for a casual game. Also, some guy named Will Daly popped up, but that seemed to be more geared towards young players.
I ended up checking out a few places. I drove by Hillsborough Tennis Plus – it looked pretty decent from the outside. Then I swung by Meadow Breeze Park, just to see if they had any public courts. It’s a nice park, but the courts were kinda packed, mostly with families and kids having a good time. I don’t want to show off my rusty skills there.
Next, I found out some information about indoor courts. Apparently, Hillsborough Tennis Plus has indoor courts, which is a big plus during the colder months. There were a few other places mentioned like Mo’R Tennis, Fitness, and Sports, and Warren Health Racquet Club, but I didn’t get a chance to visit them yet.
I eventually settled on trying out the courts at my local high school during the off-hours. They are usually empty in the evenings, and it gave me a chance to practice without feeling self-conscious. I mean, it is a public court, after all.
Getting Back in the Swing of Things
So, I dusted off my old racket, grabbed a can of balls, and headed to the court. My first few hits were, let’s just say, not pretty. It felt like I hadn’t swung a racket in ages. My serves were all over the place, and my backhand was, well, non-existent.
But, you know what? It felt good to be out there. I kept at it, practicing my serves, trying to get a feel for the ball again. Slowly but surely, I started to get into a rhythm.
I even managed to find a few people to play with. Some were just as rusty as me, while others were clearly more experienced. But everyone was super chill and just happy to be playing.
Still a Long Way to Go
I’m definitely not ready for Wimbledon or anything, but I’m enjoying the process of getting back into tennis. It’s a great workout, and it’s a lot more fun than just running on a treadmill.
I’m planning to keep playing regularly, maybe even join a league eventually. I also read something about Hunterdon categories in the most popular people’s choice contest in Hunterdon County, hosted by Hunterdon Happening. There might be some awards for the best tennis clubs there.
For now, I’m just happy to be back on the court, hitting the ball, and having a good time. And, of course, getting a good sweat in! I think ‘Play Tennis’ might be a good resource for finding more places and booking courts in the future. If any of you are in the Hunterdon area and want to hit some balls, let me know!
