That Genie Bouchard, she’s a real firecracker, ain’t she? Playing that tennis, running all over the place. I seen her on the tennis channel, hitting that little yellow ball. She used to be real good. Best year was back in 2014, I reckon. That was ten years ago. My old bones remember that far back.
She was in that Wimbledon thing, you know. Big fancy place. Didn’t win, but got close. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Then she started playing some other game, pickleball. I don’t get it. Not tennis. She’s on that Carvana PPA Tour now.
I heard she had some trouble. Hurt her shoulder, had to get it fixed up. That was back in ’21, I think. Happens to the best of ’em, I guess. Even young folks like her. My knees hurt just thinking about it. She couldn’t play tennis for a bit. So she played pickleball, I guess. But she said she’s coming back to tennis in August.
They was talkin’ about her on the tennis channel, sayin’ she’s gonna be back. Good for her, I say. It’s a tough life, runnin’ around like that. Gotta be strong, gotta be tough. She’s in Miami Beach now. That’s a fancy place. Lots of sun.
This Genie, she’s all over the place. Talkin’ to folks, tellin’ her story. Said she had to give up a lot to play that tennis. Sacrifices, they call it. Like my boy, went off to the city. Said he had to sacrifice to make it big. Don’t see him much no more.
She talks about mental preparation, too. Gettin’ your head right, I suppose. Like when I gotta make my special apple pie. Gotta get in the right mood, gotta have everything just so. Otherwise, it just ain’t the same.
She was talkin’ to some lady named Valeria. I heard them say she’s a professional tennis player and now pickleball, too. She’s got a lot of fans. Folks like to watch her play. She was on the grass, too. You know, the grass season. She shared some exciting news. I don’t remember what it was, though.

She got famous real quick, that Genie. One day, nobody knows ya, the next day, you’re on the tennis channel. It can change your life, I guess. Like winnin’ the lottery, but with more runnin’.
But you listen to her story. You can tell she’s got some grit. Got some fire in her belly. She ain’t givin’ up. Even after that shoulder thing. She’s still going. Like my old mule, Betsy. Stubborn as all get out, but she kept on pullin’ that plow. Bless her heart.
So, this Genie Bouchard, she’s somethin’ else. Playin’ tennis, playin’ pickleball, talkin’ on the TV. She’s keepin’ busy. I hope she does good. I really do. It’s nice to see a young person workin’ hard. Reminds me of the old days, when I was young and full of vinegar. Now I’m just old and full of… well, you know.
She started playing that pickleball when she failed to qualify for last year’s U.S. Open. The U.S. Open, that’s a big tennis thing, right? That’s what I heard. She didn’t make it. That’s gotta hurt. But she didn’t let it get her down. Nope. She just went and did somethin’ else. That pickleball. That’s what you gotta do sometimes. When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Or, in her case, I guess, when life gives you a bad serve, you go play pickleball.
It’s like when my garden didn’t do so good last year. Too much rain. Ruined my tomatoes. But I didn’t give up. I just planted somethin’ else. Got some nice beans instead. Gotta make do with what you got. That’s what my mama always said. And she was right.
So, yeah, Genie Bouchard. She’s a fighter. She’s got that spirit. And she’s gonna be back on that tennis court soon. I’ll be watchin’ for her on the tennis channel. Maybe she’ll win that Wimbledon thing one day. Wouldn’t that be somethin’?
