Well, I heard folks talkin’ ’bout the shortest football game in history. Ain’t that somethin’? I don’t know much about football, but I sure do like watchin’ them boys run around. Makes me tired just lookin’ at ’em! They say this shortest game, it was a real quick one. Back in, uh, 1996, I think it was.
These teams, the Chargers and the Colts, they played this game. I seen it on the TV. November 3rd, they said it was. Now, I don’t remember all the details, my memory ain’t what it used to be, but the Chargers, they won that game. They were ahead the whole time. I remember that much. That Harbaugh fella and another one, Faulk, they played for the Colts. Big strong boys. But the Chargers, they were just a little bit better that day. I heard some people say it was the fastest game ever. That’s gotta be the shortest football game ever played. 2 hours and 29 minutes it lasted.
Now, some folks say there was another short one, with the Bears and the Chiefs. Don’t know much about that one. Too much thunder, they said. Stopped the game early. But that one in ’96, that was a real game, start to finish. The shortest football game, some folks call it.
I remember back in the day, we didn’t have no fancy football games. We just threw around an old ball in the yard. Didn’t need no fancy stadiums or nothin’. Just good old-fashioned fun. These days, it’s all about the TV and the money. But I reckon, that’s how it goes. Times change.

Seems like the shortest football game to me is more interesting.
Back in my day, we didn’t have no fancy numbers. You just played the game. You won or you lost. Didn’t need no special numbers to tell you what happened. But I guess it’s different now. They got all these stats and numbers. Keeps them sports fellas busy, I reckon.
One time, my grandson, he tried to explain all these football rules to me. I just nodded my head. Didn’t understand a word he said. Too many rules. Just watch the game, I told him. That’s all that matters. You don’t need to be worryin’ about how many yards or whatever. Just enjoy the game.
So this shortest football game, it was a big deal, I guess. People still talkin’ about it. Must have been somethin’ to see. I wish I could remember it better. But my memory, like I said, it ain’t what it used to be. I just remember it was a fast game. Over before you knew it.
These days, I don’t watch as much football. My eyes ain’t so good. And it’s hard to keep track of all them players. But I still like to hear about it. Keeps me feelin’ young. Reminds me of the old days.
