Travis Hunter: From Hoops to Football Star Power

He’s a Two-Way Player, They Say

Now, what that means is he ain’t just catchin’ the ball, he’s also stoppin’ the other fellas from catchin’ it. He plays that cornerback spot and wide receiver too. Heard tell he’s the first fella ever to win all sorts of awards for both offense and defense. That’s somethin’ special, ain’t it? They give him all these fancy names, like “Player of the Year” this and “Player of the Year” that. Sounds like he’s got a whole shelf full of ‘em already. He even got one from that Walter Camp fella, whoever he is.

Folks Call Him a Throwback

I heard some folks on the TV sayin’ he’s a “throwback” player. Means he plays hard, I guess, like they used to back in the good ol’ days. He ain’t afraid to get in there and mix it up, that’s for sure. He reminds me of them old-timers who played both ways, never comin’ off the field. Tough as nails, they were.

  • He plays for the Colorado Buffaloes now.
  • Before that, he was with the Jackson State Tigers.
  • They say he was the best player ever to go to one of them FCS schools. Don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds important.

He’s Got Folks Talkin’ ‘Bout the Heisman

Now, this Heisman Trophy, that’s a big deal in college football. It’s like the biggest prize you can get. And wouldn’t you know it, they’re talkin’ about this Travis Hunter fella winnin’ it. Some fellas on the TV, they say he’s the front-runner. That means he’s got the best chance of winnin’ it, see? They say he’s squeezin’ two seasons into one, playin’ all them different positions. That’s a lot of work, I tell ya.

He’s a Youngster, Still

This boy, Travis Hunter, he ain’t even old yet. Born in 2003, they say. Just a young whippersnapper, really. But he’s already makin’ a name for himself. He’s playin’ like a seasoned veteran, they say. Makes you wonder how good he’s gonna be when he gets older, don’t it?

He’s Got a Bright Future, I Reckon

Folks are sayin’ he’s gonna be a big star in the NFL, that’s the professional football league. They say he’s already got big brands wantin’ to work with him. That’s where the money is, I guess. He’s gonna be set for life, this young fella. Good for him, I say. He’s worked hard for it, seems like.

They Keep Track of Everything He Does

You can’t hardly turn on the TV or open the newspaper without hearin’ somethin’ about this Travis Hunter. They’re countin’ everythin’ he does. “Travis Hunter logged 1,” they say. Or “Travis Hunter did this,” or “Travis Hunter did that.” They even tell you how many hours ago he did it. It’s like he’s the only football player in the whole country sometimes.

He’s got that Deion Sanders fellah lookin’ out for him.

I hear that Deion Sanders, he used to be a football star himself, he’s got a lot to do with this Travis Hunter boy. They seem real close. Deion knows a thing or two about football, that’s for sure. He probably teachin’ this young fella everything he knows. That can’t hurt none.

So, that’s the story on Travis Hunter, as best as I can tell it. He’s a football player, a good one at that, and folks are expectin’ big things from him. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but I reckon he’s gonna be somethin’ special.
