Started like I always do – hit the conference website. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. Just last season’s dusty old schedule staring back at me. Clicked around the baseball section like I was playing whack-a-mole. Tried their “future schedules” link – bam – 404 error. Nice.
Pulled out the phone next. Called the WCC office direct. Receptionist sounded tired. Said schedules “usually drop late fall” but couldn’t give me squat. Suggested checking social media. Cool. Cool cool cool.
Dove into Twitter hell. Searched “#WCCBaseball2025” – mostly player commitment posts and GIFs of home runs from 2014. Found athletic department accounts. Scrolled through months of posts about football recruits and cafeteria food. Baseball? Nah.
Here’s where it got weird. Remembered seeing some small college blog last year that leaked schedules early. Dug through my browser history – found the site after like twenty minutes. But their 2025 baseball page? “Coming soon” since February. Dead end.
Finally broke down and emailed the Gonzaga SID – my nephew’s obsessed with their shortstop. To my shock, dude actually replied next morning. Attached a PDF labeled “TENTATIVE DATES – DO NOT PUBLISH.” Jackpot.
Cross-referenced it with the old 2024 calendar on my fridge. Looked legit – most dates lined up within a week or two of last year’s games. Highlighted the big ones in marker:
- First pitch weekend: February 14-16 (Valentine’s Day doubleheaders? Romance!)
- Conference opener: March 7 vs Pepperdine (booked hotels near Malibu already)
- Rivalry week: April 10-12 Santa Clara vs Saint Mary’s (gonna need popcorn)
- Tournament time: May 21-24 in Vegas (flight alerts ON)
- Selection show watch party: May 26 (praying for multiple bids)
Copied everything into my Google Calendar with “TENTATIVE” screaming in all caps. Set reminders for when official release drops so I can adjust dates. Took three days and mild frustration, but now my spring is penciled in with baseball diamonds. Worth it.
