So today I wanted to tackle creating that Troy High football season recap video everyone’s been asking for. Started by diving straight into my messy folder labeled “Football Stuff” where I keep all the game footage. Took me forever to sort through clips from different games – had files named like “*” and “*4”, real helpful right?

Sorting Through the Chaos
First thing I did was make coffee. Strong coffee. Needed it while scrubbing through hours of shaky phone videos. Found some killer touchdown runs from the Jefferson game and that insane overtime interception against Lincoln. Dug out my notebook with scribbled stats and scores – thank god I wrote down quarter numbers or I’d be totally lost.
Building the Story Flow
Decided the season arc should go chronologically. Opened my editing software and just started dumping clips onto the timeline like:
- Preseason practice footage showing the boys sweating buckets
- That shutout against Riverside where our defense went nuts
- The heartbreaking 2-point loss to Central that had everyone screaming
- Playoff highlights including Carson’s 80-yard miracle run
Had to keep trimming fat – so many clips but only the explosive moments made the cut.
Adding the Juice
Hooked up my cheap mic to record voiceover. Did like twenty takes because my dog kept barking at squirrels outside. Grabbed some royalty-free hype music and tweaked the volume so my raspy commentary didn’t get drowned out. Dropped in:
Text overlays with final scores
Slow-mo effects on big hits
Season stat graphics
Render took forever on my old laptop – seriously thought it might catch fire.
Final Polish
Played the rough cut for my neighbor who’s a football nut. He pointed out I’d spelled “receiving” wrong twice – classic me. Fixed the typos, adjusted some transitions that felt jerky, and added the team photo at the end. Exported the final version just in time before my computer completely gave up the ghost.
Posted it this morning and already getting texts like “Bro you got my sack celebration from the Wilson game in there!” Feels good when the hours of clipping and swearing at software pay off. Might need a new laptop before next season though.
