Getting Started with CSUN Baseball 2025
Right, so everyone kept asking when CSUN Matadors baseball kicks off in 2025. I figured, hey, how hard can it be to pull together the game schedule? Piece of cake, right? Boy, was I wrong. It started simple enough. I went straight to the CSUN Athletics official page.
First thing I did was hit that “Baseball” section. Scrolled down looking for schedules. Found something for the current season – useless. Nothing for 2025 yet. Typical. Hit the news archive. Maybe last season’s announcement timing would give me a clue when 2025 might drop. Found zip. Zilch.
The Deep Dive for Dates
Okay, fine. Time to dig deeper. Checked conference websites next. CSUN plays in the Big West, yeah? Hopped over there. Again, nada for 2025. Saw some old schedules, dates circled from previous years. March, mostly. That was my first solid clue: season probably fires up late February/early March. Filed that away.
Then it got messy. Cross-referenced past years using my big notebook. Wrote down who they played opening weekends over the last few seasons:
- 2023: Opening series at home vs Some State U
- 2022: Road trip down south to play That Other Cal State
- 2021: Weird season, skip that one
Saw a pattern – they bounce between home and away for openers. Betting 2025 will be an away opener based on the rotation.
Building the Dummy Schedule
Started building my own dummy template in a spreadsheet. Based on past Big West schedules:
- Non-Conference: Roughly 20 games scattered Feb-March (mostly weekends, some mid-week)
- Big West Play: Starts late March/early April
- Format: Usually three-game weekend series Fri-Sun
- Home Game Days: Fridays often start around 2 PM, Sundays typically 1 PM – noted that as a placeholder.
Pasted in potential opponents based on past cycles. Guessed locations – home or away – best I could. Looked up academic calendars for CSUN too. Made sure I didn’t put home games during spring break! Fans gotta be there.
The Annoying Wait & Final Touches
Then came the waiting game. Honestly the worst part. Checking the CSUN site, Big West Twitter, local newspapers… practically daily since November. Drove me nuts. Finally, early December, a snippet appeared in a local sports rag – “Matadors Set Tentative Early Slate.” Jackpot! Confirmed my opening weekend theory – starting away. Scribbled that down.
Official release dropped mid-January. Quickly opened my spreadsheet. Time to see how close I got. Pretty good! Nailed the opener location and several opponents. Some mid-week games shifted, and one whole series got bumped a week later. Updated the spreadsheet manually. Double-checked start times against the official PDF. Marked the key home games – rivalry matches, senior day – in bold.
Finally, saved it as the Complete Game Schedule Guide. Felt good putting it all in one place. Lesson? Predicting sports schedules is like predicting weather – you make your best guess based on patterns, stay flexible, and always triple-check when the real thing drops. Took way more clicking and waiting than expected, but now the fans have a solid guide!
