Alright so this whole ticket scramble reminded me why I plan EARLY now. Got wind the WVSSAC Boys Championship tickets drop was coming a couple months back. Figured “no sweat, I’ve done this before.” Boy was I wrong.
First off, made a list. Gotta know:
WHAT – Finals at that big stadium downtown
WHEN – Official sale date supposedly Feb 15th
HOW – Only online through their main ticket portal
PRICE – Standard seats around $25, decent ones hitting $40ish
Day before sale, I got ready like it was mission control:
- Logged into my account – password reset nightmare avoided.
- Payment details pre-loaded – ain’t nobody got time for typing card numbers slow.
- Bookmarked the EXACT ticket page.
- Told family internet was MINE at 9:45 AM sharp.
Like prepping for battle.
The Bloodbath (aka Sale Day)
Sat down at 9:50 AM sharp, coffee steaming. Page loaded… slow. Uh oh.
Hit refresh at exactly 10:00:00 AM. Screen went WHITE.
Server crashed. Hard. Like “500 Internal Server Error” kinda hard.
Panic button activated.
Refreshed like a maniac. Refreshed until my finger cramped.
Finally, 10:07 AM – queue screen! Little bar crawling.
“Your estimated wait time: More than an hour.” My stomach sank.
Stared at that bar for 45 MINUTES. Drank cold coffee. Checked phone. Panicked more.
Bar finally jumps! Queue page refreshes… and I’m IN.
Saw blue dots for available seats. Clicked one fast! Error. “Seat taken by another fan.” Of course.
Clicked another. ERROR AGAIN.
Third click – held my breath… got dumped into checkout!
Hammered the “Pay Now” button so hard I thought the mouse broke.
Boom. Confirmation page loaded. Order number. Felt like winning the dang lottery.
What Actually Worked (No Magic)
Looking back, this ain’t genius strategy. It’s brute force survival:
- Be INSANELY early. Logged in 10+ mins before. The gate crashed IMMEDIATELY.
- Know YOUR ticket portal account. Username/Password? Saved. Card? Saved. Autofill? On.
- Refresh is your god now. Crashing? Keep smashing F5. Queue? WAIT. Don’t bail.
- Click FAST, think LATER. Don’t hunt “perfect” seats. Grab ANY standard/okay seat quick.
- Pay FASTER. Pre-loaded payment is the ONLY reason I got through checkout.
Honestly? Luck plays a big part too. Servers held out JUST long enough for me.
Feels ridiculous needing military tactics just to see some high school basketball, but man, that confirmation screen? Worth it.
