Why I even started this mess
Couple weeks ago, my neighbor Jimmy asked if I knew when his kid’s home games were this fall. I thought I remembered seeing something on the school website, but man, was I wrong. Okay, deep breath. Remembered seeing paper flyers months back at the community center bulletin board. Drove over there, peeled through layers of ads and lost dog posters… found one game date scribbled on a faded flyer. Not exactly efficient.
Stopping the madness
Enough was enough. Made up my mind: gonna build my own reliable schedule. Pulled up a blank spreadsheet and called it “Linton MS Football 2024 Truth”. Got ambitious – figured I’d track:

Called the school office next Tuesday morning. Got transferred four times – receptionist to athletics secretary to football coach voicemail back to secretary. Finally, the secretary actually knew something! Started rattling off dates from the AD’s master list.
My fingers were flying across that keyboard getting dates down:

“Oct 26th at Westfield… away”
“Playoffs start Nov 5th… TBD…”
Kept asking “Home? Or Away?” for every date she mentioned. Wasn’t taking any chances this time.

That phone call gave me solid ground. Then I remembered the booster club usually posts stuff. Dug into their rarely updated but usually correct website. Found a PDF announcement about the season opener and senior night confirming dates I had from the secretary. Good sign.
Checked the city parks department site too – they manage the home field. Found permits confirming two home game dates on the field schedule. Another cross-check nailed down.
Putting it all together
Finally filled in that spreadsheet. Typed everything myself, date by date, opponent by opponent. Highlighted all the home games bright yellow so they pop. Made a separate section just for potential playoffs – noted they depend on standings.
Printing that sheet felt like winning a trophy. Stuck one copy on my fridge and gave another to Jimmy. Took maybe two hours total, mostly phone tag and organizing, but now it’s crystal clear.
Why this headache is necessary
Turns out, nobody bothers keeping this info in one spot. School site? Outdated. District site? Neglected. Gotta be a detective. Going straight to the school office and boosters was the only way to get the real dates before anything got moved. Feels like a state school would have this handled better.
