Alright, so I’ve been messing around with this whole fantasy basketball thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I’m not a pro or anything, but I figured I’d share how I’ve been doing my rankings for the 2024 season, just in case anyone else is as lost as I was at the start.
First off, I started by looking at the big names, the guys everyone’s talking about. Nikola Jokic, he’s a beast, right? No-brainer to put him high up on the list. And then there’s this Victor Wembanyama dude, seems like he’s the new hotshot, so I had to give him some respect too.
- Tried to understand these rankings I found online.
- Made a list of the top players everyone’s hyping up.
- Stared at a bunch of stats, not gonna lie, got a bit cross-eyed.
- Started moving players around based on, well, a gut feeling and some of those stats.
- Realized position matters, like, a lot.
Then, I dug a little deeper. I checked out some website called Roto-something, and they had a list of like, 150 players. It felt like a lot, but I went through it, trying to make sense of it all. This Luka Doncic guy, he’s good, played in some big games. Also, this Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, apparently he’s good on both ends of the court.
I started putting my own list together. I used some spreadsheet thing, which, I guess, is what the pros use? It wasn’t pretty, but it got the job done. I looked at how these guys did last season, who got better, who’s looking kinda shaky. It’s like predicting the future, but with less crystal ball and more numbers.
Then I started thinking about positions. Like, you can’t just have all centers, right? You need a mix. So, I made sure I had some guards, forwards, the whole shebang. This part was tricky. I had to figure out who’s the best in each spot. Like, this guy might be great, but if there are ten other guys just like him, maybe he’s not THAT special in fantasy land.
What I Learned
- Names matter, but so do numbers.
- Don’t sleep on the new guys.
- Positions, positions, positions.
- It’s a lot of guesswork, but educated guesswork.
Honestly, I’m still not sure if my list is any good. But it’s been a fun project. It’s like being the coach of your own dream team, picking who you think will do great. I kept changing my list, like, every day. One day I’m all about this player, the next day I’m swapping him out for someone else. It’s a mess, but it’s my mess.
So, yeah, that’s how I tackled this fantasy basketball ranking thing. It’s a mix of following the crowd, doing your own homework, and a whole lot of guessing. If you’re into this stuff, give it a shot. It’s a good time, even if you have no idea what you’re doing. Like me!
