Okay, so it’s Week 1 of fantasy football, and like everyone else, I was staring at my lineup, totally paralyzed. Should I go with my gut? Or some “expert” advice? I decided to do a little digging of my own.

Step 1: Checking the Matchups
First, I pulled up the schedule. No brainer, right? I wanted to see who was playing who. Some defenses are just brutal, and others, well, let’s just say they’re more generous.
I jotted down notes like “Steelers D – tough” and “Lions O – maybe good?” Just quick thoughts, nothing fancy.
Step 2: Injury Reports – Gotta Know Who’s Actually Playing
This is huge. A star player with a “questionable” tag? That’s a risk. I scrolled through the injury reports, looking for anything that screamed “red flag.” Hamstrings, groins… those are the enemies of fantasy points.
Step 3: My Own Deep Dive (aka Overthinking)
- I started comparing my players. Like, I had both Austin Ekeler and Josh Jacobs. Both studs, but who has the better matchup THIS week?
- I thought back to last season, but not too much. Things change fast in the NFL.
- I made some pros and cons lists. Yeah, I’m that guy.
Step 4: Gut Check Time
After all that, I took a step back. Looked at my notes, my lists, the matchups… and then, I just went with my gut. Sometimes, you gotta trust your instincts, right?
I locked in my lineup. Felt good about it. Now, it’s all about watching the games and hoping for the best! (And maybe bragging a little if I win…)
That is my simple stratergy process, and I will share the results with you guys in next blog!
