Well now, lemme tell ya ’bout them St. Francis High School boys and their basketball. I ain’t no expert, but I seen ’em play a few times, and I can tell ya one thing, they sure know how to put on a show! Now, St. Francis, it’s one of them schools where you don’t just learn the books, but you get to run ’round and show what you’re made of on the court, too. I reckon it’s been goin’ on for years, and them boys still playin’ like they’re fightin’ for their last meal!
Now, ya might be wonderin’, what’s so special ‘bout St. Francis basketball? Well, let me tell ya, they got a long history, a real long one. Started way back in the day when folks first started sendin’ their kids to that school. Back then, the boys didn’t have all the fancy stuff we see now, but that didn’t stop ‘em from makin’ the crowd go wild when they hit the court.
Now, St. Francis High School, they got this fancy place called the Alumni Gym, where all the big games happen. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, and let me tell ya, that gym sure gets hot when the Lancers are playin’. They got a real strong team, those boys. They call themselves the Lancers, and they take their basketball serious. Ain’t no joke when it comes to that ball, they play with all they got.
If ya wanna know how serious they are, just take a look at their roster. I don’t know all them boys by name, but I reckon they got a bunch of them who know how to shoot that ball like it’s their job. I mean, some of ‘em are real tall, and I swear, when they jump up to make a basket, they look like they could touch the sky! It’s somethin’ to see, I tell ya!
The schedule for them boys, it’s packed. They play a lot of teams, sometimes they win big, sometimes they lose. But one thing’s for sure, they don’t give up easy. I seen ‘em in a real tough game once, and even though it looked like they were gonna lose, they just kept on playin’ like they had nothin’ to lose. And in the end, they pulled off a win that had everyone in that gym cheerin’ so loud, I thought the roof was gonna come down!
Now, you can’t forget about the coaches neither. Them folks, they’re like the backbone of the team. I don’t know their names off the top of my head, but I know this – they work hard to get them boys in shape, show ‘em the right moves, and keep ‘em focused. Ain’t no way them boys would be hittin’ those shots without the help of them coaches.
And let’s not forget about the fans! Oh lord, them folks sure love their Lancers. You can hear ‘em yellin’ and clappin’ from across the street when they got a game goin’ on. You got folks in them bleachers, holdin’ their breath when it’s a close game, and then lettin’ out a big ol’ cheer when they make a basket. It’s like a big ol’ family get-together every time they play, and I reckon that’s what makes it so special.
Now, I don’t know if you’ve heard of the other teams they face, like them Norcross Blue Devils or them other tough teams from around the area, but I can tell ya, St. Francis don’t back down. They’ve had some big wins, like the time they beat Norcross 65-47. That was a real good game, and them boys were proud of themselves, that’s for sure.
Every season, them boys get better and better. I seen it with my own eyes. They keep trainin’, keep practicin’, and keep playin’. Don’t matter if they win or lose, they always give it their best shot. And that’s what makes St. Francis High School basketball so dang special. It’s not just about the points on the scoreboard, it’s about that heart they put into the game.
So, if you ever get a chance to see ’em play, you best believe it’s somethin’ you won’t forget. They ain’t the biggest team, but they sure got some fight in ’em, and that’s what counts when you’re playin’ basketball at St. Francis High School.
