NFL Players That Are Mormon: Inspiring Stories and Stats

Alright, let’s talk about them football fellas, the ones that play in that there NFL. Some folks say they’re Mormons, or somethin’ like that. Them Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fellas, you know? Heard they got quite a few playin’ the game, so let’s see what’s what.

Now, I ain’t no expert, mind you. I just watch the games sometimes when my grandson ain’t hoggin’ the TV. But I hear tell of this fella, Steve Young. Yep, a big name, they say. Folks ain’t surprised he’s one of them Mormons. Guess he’s a real good player, or was. They don’t play forever, you know. Their knees and backs give out, just like us old folks, but faster, ha!

Then there’s a whole bunch of ’em, comin’ from that BYU school, Brigham Young University. That’s a Mormon school, see? So, it makes sense they got a lot of players headin’ to the NFL. They got drafted, they say. Means them big teams pick ’em to play. Must be somethin’ in the water over there, makin’ ’em all big and strong. Or maybe it’s the prayers, who knows?

Heard there were, like, twelve of them young fellas headin’ to the NFL after that draft thing. Imagine that! Twelve boys all growed up and playin’ that rough game. Their mamas must be proud, and worried sick all at the same time. I know I would be, always frettin’ about ‘em gettin’ hurt. Heard they make good money though, these players. Enough to buy a whole farm, maybe two!

Some of them even went on missions for their church. You know, spreadin’ the word and helpin’ folks. Then they come back and play football. Must be tough, goin’ from talkin’ about the good Lord to knockin’ heads on the field. Heard there’s eleven of them fellas that did that, missionaries turned football stars. That Reid fella, he’s one of them. Born way back in ’58, down in Los Angeles. Went to BYU too, that fella. Smart and strong, I guess.

So, why so many Mormons in the NFL? Well, some say it’s because them boys grow up disciplined, you know? They learn to work hard and follow rules, and that’s good for football. They gotta be tough and work as a team too. Football is a team thing and them Mormons seem to know how to do that. And like I said, BYU pumps out some good players. They got good coaches and they train them hard.

And hey, maybe the Lord’s lookin’ out for ’em too. Givin’ them strong legs and a good eye for the ball. I don’t know, I’m just guessin’ here. But it seems like them Mormons are doin’ somethin’ right. They got a good reputation, they say. Hard-workin’ and honest, that’s what I hear. And that’s a good thing, whether you’re playin’ football or just livin’ life.

Now, I can’t name all them Mormon players, mind you. There’s too many of them! But I know they’re out there, makin’ their mamas proud and playin’ their hearts out. And that’s what matters, ain’t it? Playin’ fair and doin’ your best. That’s what my old man used to say, and he didn’t know nothin’ about no football!

So, next time you’re watchin’ a game, keep an eye out. You might see one of them Mormon fellas runnin’ down the field. And remember what I told ya. They’re tough, they’re disciplined, and they come from good families. And maybe, just maybe, they got a little help from the Lord, too. Who knows? It’s a funny ol’ world.

I tell you what though, all that runnin’ around and hittin’ each other, it ain’t for me. I’d rather sit on my porch with a glass of lemonade and watch the birds. But hey, to each their own, right? Them football fellas, they got their thing, and I got mine. And that’s just fine.

Anyways, that’s all I know about them Mormon NFL players. It ain’t much, but it’s somethin’. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some chores to do. Them chickens ain’t gonna feed themselves, you know! And I need to make sure my grandson ain’t glued to that TV again, wasting his time when there’s work to be done. He ought to be learnin’ a trade instead of watchin’ them fellas runnin’ around.

But, I gotta say, it’s kinda fun watchin’ sometimes, especially when them Mormon boys do good. Makes you feel proud, even if you ain’t never met ’em. Shows what hard work and good livin’ can do, I guess. And that’s a lesson for us all, ain’t it?
