NFL Announcer Pay: How Much Do They Really Make in a Season?

Alright, let’s gab about somethin’ I heard on the TV the other day. Them fellas who yell about football on the TV, yeah, the announcers! They get paid a whole heap of money, more than you can shake a stick at, I tell ya. I was watchin’ the game, and my grandson, he’s a smart fella, he told me some of these guys make more money in a year than most folks see in a lifetime. Can you believe that?

NFL Announcer Pay: How Much Do They Really Make in a Season?

So, I got to thinkin’, how much do these NFL sports announcers make, really? It ain’t no small potatoes, that’s for sure. My grandson, he looked it up on that internet thingy, and he told me some numbers that made my jaw drop. Said some of them make, like, ten million dollars a year! Ten million! That’s more zeros than I can count on both hands and both feet.

Now, I ain’t no expert, but that sounds like a whole lotta money just for talkin’ about football. But I guess it ain’t just talkin’, is it? They got to know all them players’ names, and all them fancy plays, and they got to make it sound excitin’, so folks keep watchin’. And I guess if folks keep watchin’, the TV people make a lot of money, and then they can pay them announcers a lot of money. That’s how it works, I reckon.

  • Some fellas, like that Tony Romo fella, he used to play football, now he just talks about it, and he gets paid somethin’ like 17 million dollars a year from CBS. Seventeen million! That’s enough to buy a whole town, I betcha.
  • And then there’s this Tom Brady guy, he played football for a long time, and now he’s gonna be on TV, and they say he’s gonna get paid somethin’ crazy like 37.5 million dollars. Thirty-seven and a half million! I can’t even imagine that much money. I guess he’s pretty good at talkin’ about football, or maybe he’s just famous. Folks like famous people, I guess.
  • There’s also a man named Al Michaels, and he’s up there with the big earners too. He got himself a deal with Amazon, and now he’s makin’ somethin’ like 14 to 16 million dollars a year. That’s a three year deal, mind you. He must be good at talkin’ about football too.
  • And don’t forget about Buck over at ESPN. He’s making a pretty penny, something like 12 to 15 million dollars a year for five years. My grandson says that Buck calls the Monday night games. That’s big time!
  • Then you got fellas like Mike Tirico, he gets around 10.5 million dollars. He’s been doing this announcing gig for a long time, even did the Monday night games for a whole ten years. I reckon they pay you more the longer you been doin’ it.

It’s a lot of money, that’s for sure. My grandson told me that even an average quarterback makes around $7 million dollars a year. So these announcers are making a whole lot more than most of the players! It’s kinda funny when you think about it. These fellas ain’t out there gettin’ tackled, they ain’t throwin’ the ball, they ain’t runnin’ around. They just sittin’ up in a booth, watchin’ the game, and talkin’ about it. And they gettin’ paid millions of dollars! Well, I guess it’s good work if you can get it.

But you know, it makes you think. All that money for talkin’ about a game. Seems like there’s a lot of money in this world, just floatin’ around, and some folks get a whole heap of it, and some folks don’t get much at all. It ain’t fair, but that’s the way it is, I guess. Just gotta keep on keepin’ on, and maybe one day we’ll all be makin’ millions talkin’ about… well, maybe not talkin’ about football, but somethin’!

Anyways, that’s what I heard about how much them NFL sports announcers make. It’s a lot of money, more money than I’ll ever see in my life, that’s for sure. But hey, if folks are willin’ to pay ‘em that much, then I guess they deserve it. They must be pretty good at talkin’ about football, that’s all I can say.

So next time you’re watchin’ the game, and you hear them announcers yappin’ away, just remember, they ain’t just talkin’ for nothin’. They gettin’ paid a whole heap of money for it. And that, my friends, is the truth.
