Alright, so today I decided to get my feet wet with a practice draft for fantasy football. I’ve played fantasy football on and off for years, but I’ve never really taken the draft process seriously. This time, I wanted to actually try and see what kind of team I could build with a little bit of planning.

First, I jumped onto a free mock draft simulator.I didn’t spend too long picking * one I picked had a simple setup. ten-team league, standard scoring. Perfect for a quick run-through.

Before starting, I scribbled down a few quick notes. Nothing fancy, just a list of players I liked at each position and a couple of “sleepers” I’d heard about on podcasts. It was like a super rough cheat sheet, just to have some names in front of me.

The Draft Begins!

The draft started, and man, those first few rounds go fast! Running backs were flying off the board. I grabbed a solid RB in the first round – you gotta have those workhorses. In the second, I snagged a top-tier wide receiver. Felt pretty good about that start.

The middle rounds were where things got interesting. I tried to balance my roster, picking up a quarterback, tight end, and filling out my WR and RB slots. I definitely made a few impulsive picks here – saw a player I liked and just grabbed him, even if it wasn’t the “smartest” move based on my needs.

  • Round 1: Stud Running Back
  • Round 2: Top Wide Receiver
  • Rounds 3-7: QB, TE, and filling out starters
  • Later Rounds: Defense, Kicker, and some lottery ticket backups!

Towards the end, I focused on defense and kicker – positions I usually just wing it on. I also picked up a couple of those “sleeper” players I had noted down, hoping one of them might surprise everyone (including me!).

After the draft, the simulator gave my team a grade .It wasn’t great. It’s showed me some areas where I could improve. For example, I waited too long on a tight end and ended up with a real question mark there. But hey, that’s what practice is for, right?

Overall, it was a good learning experience. Even this quick mock draft helped me identify some weaknesses in my drafting strategy. Next time, I’ll pay more attention to positional needs and maybe do a little more research beforehand. But for a first run-through, I’m not too disappointed!
