Alright, so I’ve been messing around with this whole “fantasy football rankings” thing, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. I figured I’d share my little journey, from total newbie to, well, slightly-less-total newbie.
First off, I started by just looking at what the “experts” were saying. You know, the big-name sports sites, the usual suspects. I just read a bunch of articles, checked out their top 100 lists, that sort of thing. It was information overload, to be honest.
Diving into the Data
Then, I decided I needed to get my hands dirty. I found some free data sources, mostly just basic stats from last season – you know, touchdowns, yards, receptions, all that jazz. I dumped it all into a spreadsheet, thinking I was some kind of data wizard.
Spoiler alert: I’m not. I stared at that spreadsheet for hours, not really knowing what to do with it. It was just a bunch of numbers staring back at me.

My first rankings were… rough. Let’s just say that. I had some guys way too high, some way too low. It was all based on my gut feeling and some very questionable math. I used the ranking to join into the game.
But hey, it was my system, and I was learning. I kept tweaking it, adding in more stats, trying to factor in things like player age and injury history (which was another rabbit hole of research, let me tell you).
I’m still no expert, not by a long shot. But it’s been a fun process, and I’m definitely getting better at spotting potential sleepers and avoiding busts. I’m now confident to join every game.
